The Hancock County Health Department inspects restaurants four times annually and violations are determined as “C” for critical, “NC” for noncritical and “R” for repeated violations. The following inspections are based on information obtained from Retail Food Inspection reports.

June 15

Aramark at Elanco

2500 Innovation Way, Greenfield

Violations found: C – sliced ham and chicken in walk-in cooler for salads does not have date mark, corrected; NC – ice scoops in coffee bar area need to be stored on clean surface, corrected.

June 16

Zapp Thai Restaurant

2045 N. State St., Greenfield

Violations found: C, R – reach-in coolers are holding food at 46 degrees or above, to be corrected by June 19; NC – need to provide thermometers in all refrigeration units, to be corrected by June 19; C – dish machine not dispensing sanitizer, use three-compartment sink until repaired, corrected; NC – need to provide working test strips for dish machine and quaternary sanitizer, to be corrected by June 19; C – employee observed putting on food handling gloves without washing hands, corrected; C – employee observed putting food in mouth with food handling gloves on in food prep line, corrected; NC – ice scoop handle is in ice in waitress/waiter area, corrected; NC – soap not dispensing at dish machine, corrected; NC – hood above woks is dripping, to be corrected by June 19; NC – light in ventilation hood is covered with debris, to be corrected by June 19, NC – faucets are leaking at hand sink, to be corrected by June 19; C – dish machine not draining properly, to be corrected by June 19; NC – need to provide thin-tipped food thermometer, to be corrected by June 19.

Violations found: C – chicken on hot-holding table for customers is below 135 degrees, corrected; C – need to provide hard copy or electronic copy of employee health reporting policy, to be corrected by June 19.

The Grill

Violations found: NC, R – drinking glasses need to air dry before stacking, to be corrected by July 1; C – sanitizer at dish machine is too strong, make sure all dishes dry before stacking, to be corrected by June 21; NC – need to provide test strips for sanitizer at dish machine, check dish machine daily, to be corrected by July 1; NC – need to have thermometer in reach-in refrigeration unit under table with butter/sour cream station, to be corrected by July 1; NC – hand sink nearest mop sink is leaking onto wall and floor, to be corrected by July 1; NC – need to provide paper towels at hand-washing sink in bar area, to be corrected by July 1.

Violations found: C, R – dish machine in bar area not dispensing sanitizer, use three-compartment sink until repaired, corrected; NC – dish machine in bar area has empty detergent bottle, corrected; NC – need to provide test strips for sanitizer, to be corrected by June 27; C – chicken and ground beef on steam table are below 135 degrees, corrected; C – hand-washing sink in kitchen is not provided with hot water and must only be used for hand washing, corrected; NC, R2 – some walls in kitchen are damaged.

Ranchera Bar and Grill

Violations found: C – employee observed opening package of raw steak over counter where ready-to-eat food is prepared, employee also observed touching utensils and cooler doors after touching raw chicken, corrected; NC – need to provide thin-tipped food thermometer, to be corrected by July 7; NC – ice scoop was being stored directly on top of ice machine, corrected; NC – hand sink by food prep sink did not have paper towels, corrected; NC – hood over grill/fryer has oil dripping, to be corrected by July 7; NC – hand-washing sink in bar area did not reach water temperature of 100 degrees, to be corrected by July 7.

Violations found: NC – handle of ice scoop is in ice, corrected; NC – paper towel dispenser in kitchen is not working, corrected; NC, R – walls at entry way by mop sink needs to be repaired, to be corrected by Aug. 1; NC, R – ice build-up in walk-in freezer, to be corrected by Aug. 1.

Griggsby’s Station

101 W. Main St., Greenfield

Violations found: C – sour cream and milk-based dressings need to be at 41 degrees or below, corrected; NC – some debris build-up on floors under equipment such as dish machine and reach-in cooler, to be corrected by July 7.

Violation found: NC – floors have debris build-up under bakery oven, pizza prep table and table with sink by prep table, debris on floor, fans and ceiling, to be corrected by July 7.
