The Hancock County Health Department inspects restaurants four times annually and violations are determined as “C” for critical, “NC” for noncritical and “R” for repeated violations. The following inspections are based on information obtained from Retail Food Inspection reports.

March 13

Violation found: C – dish machine not dispensing sanitizer, corrected.

1274 N. State St., Greenfield

Violations found: C – chicken that is cooked, cooled and reheated needs to be reheated to a temperature of 165 degrees, corrected; NC – ceiling of walk-in cooler has some debris build-up, to be corrected by March 17.

Circle K

2243 N. Ind. 9, Greenfield

Violation found: C – cold air curtain cooler on sales floor showing deviations from 42 degrees to 50 degrees, colder foods toward the sides, warmer toward the middle; recalibrate or repair to maintain 41 degrees or lower throughout, to be corrected by March 29.

Ben’s Soft Pretzels

1965 N. State St., Greenfield

Violations found: NC – small white refrigerator behind service counter has deteriorated seal around door, to be corrected by March 29; NC – need to provide sanitizer test strips, to be corrected by March 29; NC – no hand towels available at hand washing sink, to be corrected by March 29; NC, R – grime and debris build-up on stainless steel table next to ovens, debris and grime on flood around same table, to be corrected by March 29.

Violation found: C – employee observed opening walk-in cooler with food handling gloves on then going to food line to prepare sandwiches. Employees must change gloves and wash hands when contamination to food handling gloves occur; corrected.

Violations found: NC – grime build-up on chest freezers in dry storage area, front of prep line cooler, to be corrected by April 11; NC – floor coating in back area chipping and peeling, to be corrected by April 25; NC – sink is cracked and chipping in kitchen, to be corrected by April 11.

Violations found: NC – debris build-up underneath prep tables, to be corrected by April 11; NC – ice build-up on freezer lines, seal on freezer door is not sealing, allowing ice build-up on flood and door jamb, to be corrected by April 25.
