Mt. Vernon blanks Pendleton Heights

In its Hoosier Heritage Conference opener, Mt. Vernon defeated host Pendleton Heights 5-0 Monday.

Adam Koon, Manny Downs and Robbie Moore each had straight set victories in singles.

Koon won 6-0, 6-3 over Sam Bowers. Downs did not give up a game in a 6-0, 6-0 victory against Austin Perny. Moore won by a count of 6-3, 6-1 versus Cove Ritchey.

The No. 1 doubles match went three sets. Mt. Vernon’s Matthew Jones and Bryndan Wylie defeated Mark Nielsen and Cole Bubenzer 6-2, 3-6, 6-1.

At No. 2, Marauders Max Orelup and Tate Cougill downed Isaac Elizondo and Ben Caldwell 6-2, 6-4.

Cougars pick up win at Rushville

Greenfield-Central’s boys tennis team improved to 4-1 with a 5-0 victory at Rushville Monday.

Dragons nipped by Delta

New Palestine lost 3-2 to visiting Delta Monday.

The Dragons got wins from singles players Moses Haynes and Arjomand Khokar.

At No. 1 singles, Haynes won 6-0, 6-3. At No. 2, Khokar was victorious 7-6 (3), 6-3.

New Palestine is 1-3 overall and 0-2 in the Hoosier Heritage Conference.

Girls golf

NP golfers beat G-C, FC

At Hawk’s Tail in Greenfield, New Palestine’s girls golf team picked up wins over Franklin Central and Greenfield-Central Monday.

The Dragons shot a 181, eight strokes better than Franklin Central (189). Greenfield-Central finished with a 210.

New Palestine was led by Lily Kirchner with a round of 41. Lauren Appleby shot 45. Zoe Nelson finished with 46 and Kate Stanfield shot 49.

For Greenfield-Central, Sydnie Wherry led with a 40. Ella Neill shot a 46.

Girls soccer

Dragons tie Shamrocks

Freshman Gabrielle Brown scored her first high school goal in New Palestine’s 1-1 tie with visiting Westfield Monday.

Both teams scored goals in the first half. Vivian Miller assisted on Brown’s tally.

In goal, New Pal’s Grace Hasenkamp had four saves.

The Dragons are 2-1-1 on the season.

Royals drop MEC match

In the first Mid-Eastern Conference match of the season, Eastern Hancock lost 3-0 to visiting Wes-Del on Monday.

The Royals (2-5, 0-1) lost by set scores of 25-15, 25-7, 25-17.
