MARION COUNTY — A Greenfield man is accused of committing multiple crimes, including kidnapping a woman and two children during an incident in mid-August.

Jacob Gibson, 27, 200 block of Jewell Lane, Greenfield, faces 11 charges in all, including three Level 5 felony count of kidnapping, three Level 5 felony counts of criminal confinement, a Level 6 felony count of escape – removes electronic monitoring, two Level 6 felony counts of domestic battery, a Level 6 felony count of strangulation and a Class A misdemeanor count of invasion of privacy.

Officials from Boone County said in a press release the incident happened Friday, Aug. 12. That’s when they received a phone call to the Boone County Communications 911 center around 6:30 a.m. from a good samaritan. The samaritan advised there were three individuals who had been kidnapped out of Lawrence. The caller stated they were seen near I-65 at the 148 mile-marker northbound rest park.

Boone County Sheriff Deputies responded to the scene to find a woman from Lawrence and two juveniles being held against their will by Gibson, officials said.

After further investigation, it was discovered the Lawrence Police Department had recently responded to a call in this jurisdiction and were searching for the woman. Shortly after making the discovery, the Lawrence Police Department was contacted, and their detectives responded to the scene. Lawrence detectives took Gibson into custody, and he was transported to the Marion County Jail.

“This morning is another great example of teamwork between the community and law enforcement,” Boone County Sheriff Mike Nielsen said in a release. “We have said on many occasions that, without your assistance, we could not do what we do. This good samaritan did the right thing, and now because of their brave and quick actions and the timely response of the BCSO Deputies, these three victims are now safe from harm. Great work!”

Gibson had an initial hearing Thursday, Aug. 17 in Marion County Court 30. Court records show Gibson’s trial is slated for mid-September.
