The Hancock County Health Department inspects restaurants four times annually and violations are determined as “C” for critical, “NC” for noncritical and “R” for repeated violations. The following inspections are based on information obtained from Retail Food Inspection reports.

April 13

Sugar Creek Brickhouse

5821 W. U.S. 40, Greenfield

Violations found: NC – some build-up under dish machine scrape table and behind pizza table, to be corrected by May 1; C – shredded and sliced cheese above 41 degrees, corrected; C – coleslaw date-marked incorrectly, corrected; C – employee observed touching ready-to-eat food with bare hands, corrected.

April 14

Wendy’s

1508 N. State St., Greenfield

Violations found: C, R – chicken nuggets in hot holding unit are below 135 degrees, cheese on prep line above 41 degrees, corrected; NC – debris build-up under sandwich prep equipment and fryers, to be corrected by May 6.

AVI Food Systems at IAF

1300 W. Anderson Blvd., Greenfield

Violations found: C – outdated coleslaw, corrected; NC – build-up on floors under fryers and in corners, along edges, to be corrected by May 1.

April 18

The Grill

6621 W. Broadway St., McCordsville

Violations found: NC, R – build-up of debris on floors in kitchen under equipment, tables and dish machine, to be corrected by April 20; C – roach activity observed in kitchen, schedule pest control after deep cleaning of kitchen, to be corrected by April 20; C – food debris on knives considered clean on magnetic strip, corrected; NC – need to provide soap at hand sink, corrected; NC – gap at bottom of back door in kitchen, to be corrected by April 20.

Violations found: C – need to provide food contact surface sanitizer for ice scoop and drink dispenser nozzles, to be corrected by April 18; NC – slushy machine needs to be cleaned, to be corrected by May 1; NC – need to provide ice scoop so that it it kept clean and protected, handle of ice scoop cannot get into ice, ice buckets cannot be stacked, to be corrected by April 18; NC, R – flooring in area by three-compartment sink has broken tiles, broken tiles in room with mop sink and wall damaged by mop sink, to be corrected by May 1.

April 19

Chicago’s Pizza

5917 W. Broadway St., McCordsville

Violations found: NC – plumbing under three-compartment sink does not adequately convey waste water to floor drain, causing waste water to run out and splash on floor of surrounding area, to be corrected by May 19; NC – debris, grime build-up on and inside vent hood over pizza oven, to be corrected by May 3; C – two unlabeled spray bottles in chemical storage area, corrected.

April 20

The Sweet Shop

Violations found: NC – some debris build-up in corner and along edges on floor in kitchen, debris up on window ledge and edging on wall in the same area, back storage area floor has debris, to be corrected by May 20; NC – some tiles are broken in kitchen area, to be corrected by May 20; C – employee observed handling donuts with bare hand, corrected.

Violations found: C – hot-holding unit holding chicken by bun toaster was not holding chicken above 135 degrees, corrected; NC – water temperature at hand sink in women’s restroom did not reach 100 degrees, to be corrected by May 18.
