GREENFIELD

D. Steven Blue, age 76, of Greenfield, passed away Monday, September 14, 2020, at Suburban Hospice of Hancock Regional Hospital. Steve was born in Warsaw, Indiana on February 27, 1944 to Burwyn Adair and Almyrta Lois (Snyder) Blue. He graduated from Rochester High School, home of the Zebras, in 1962. In school, he participated in football, baseball, and basketball and was known to his teammates as Yogi. Steve received his Bachelor of Science, Masters, and Educational Specialist degrees in Education from Indiana State University. He married Becky (Morrett) on August 14, 1966 in Rochester, Indiana.

Steve began his career as a teacher in Rockville and Crawfordsville. He later moved his family to Hancock County where he spent time as the Principal of Weston Elementary School, Assistant Superintendent at Greenfield Central Schools, and Principal at Harris Elementary School before retiring in 2003. Mr. Blue was a past member of Kiwanis and the Indiana Principal’s Association. He was a current member of Greenfield Christian Church and Hawk’s Tail Golf Course. After retiring from his many years as Principal, Steve enjoyed spending his time taking flying lessons, dancing, listening to all types of music, and golfing with his family and friends. He had a passion for airplanes and always described a perfect day as a “beautiful day to fly”. Steve found joy in researching the genealogy of his and Becky’s family. He loved traveling with friends and had been to various places including New Orleans, Washington, DC, Amelia Island, and the Natchez Trail. Steve loved his life in education, especially the teachers and kids he had the pleasure of working alongside. He was always very proud when he would see a past Harris Elementary student.

Steve is survived by his wife, Becky Blue of Greenfield; daughter, Stacy (Tony) Sturgeon of Noblesville; son, Ryan (Kelly) Blue of Fishers; five grandchildren, Ben, Natalie, William, Sophie, and Maeve; sister-in-law, Nancy (Mike) Romack; sisters, Becky (Randy) Green of Rochester and Yvetta Waller of Washington, IL; and his dog, Theo. He was preceded in death by his parents, Burwyn and Almyrta Blue; and father and mother-in-law, Duke and Ann Morrett.
