Monte L. Godbey, 81, died Monday, May 6, 2024 at his home in Greenfield, Indiana.

He was born May 11, 1942, in Anderson, Indiana, to Merle and Kathleen (Montgomery) Godbey. Monte graduated in 1960 from Pendleton High School.

He developed a love for cars at a young age that led to a long and fulfilling career in the car business. He comically dubbed himself “the biggest car dealer in Greenfield” and worked in multiple dealerships, including General Manager of Inskeep Ford, followed by his own businesses. He also managed National Car Sales and Rental of Greenfield for several years. He loved people and loved helping them and was always ready for a party and a laugh, both of which he would initiate if not already in the works. He was also a long-time member of Bethel Baptist church.

Monte is survived by his loving family including wife, Teresa; daughter, Julie (Rick) Truscott of Knightstown; son, Jeff (Amy) Godbey of Greenfield; stepson Kirk (Laura) Hedrick of Kennard; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brother, Gary Godbey; and sister, Judy (Bill) Wihebrink.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Richard; wife, Lorene Godbey; wife, Angela Godbey; son, Joe Godbey; stepdaughters Jackie, Karen, and Lori; stepson, Chris, and two grandchildren.

Friends will gather from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm on Friday, May 17, 2024 at Brandywine Community Church, 1551 E New Road, Greenfield, followed by a Celebration of Life at 1:00 pm. Inurnment will follow at Park Cemetery.
