The Hancock County Health Department inspects restaurants four times annually and violations are determined as “C” for critical, “NC” for noncritical and “R” for repeated violations. The following inspections are based on information obtained from Retail Food Inspection Reports.

May 1

Village Pantry

Location: 900 S. State St., Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C — food in hot hold unit not being held at 135 degrees or higher, in-use utensils must be cleaned and sanitized every four hours when in use, corrected; C/R — must date-mark lunch meat when package opened, corrected/discarded; NC — clean wheels of fryer as needed to remove build-up, clean ceiling and vents to remove fuzzies and build-up, to be corrected by Aug. 1; NC/R — obtain thin-tipped food thermometer, to be corrected by Aug. 1.

Tour of Italy

Location: 5 American Legion Place, Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C — employee seen touching sandwiches with bare hands, corrected; NC — utensils cannot be stored between back of cooler and top, dish machine not dispensing detergent, wiping cloths need to be stored in sanitizer between uses, corrected.

Hawk’s Tail

Location: 145 S. Morristown Pike, Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: NC/R — repair/replace light rods in kitchen that are not working, to be corrected by July 1; NC — repair/replace floor in kitchen and under ice machine where tiles have become damaged or broken, lips of cups for drinks need to be protected from contamination, kept in original sleeves or use dispensing unit, to be corrected by July 1.

Speedway

Location: 5058 W. U.S. Highway 52, New Palestine

Type of Inspection: Routine

No violations found.
