Prep roundup: Dragons win regular season finale

New Palestine’s boys volleyball team finished its regular season at Warren Central Tuesday with a 3-1 victory.

The Dragons will take a 13-11 record into Thursday’s Roncalli Sectional. New Palestine opens with Beech Grove at 5:30 p.m.

Against the Warriors on Tuesday, New Palestine won by set scores of 25-12, 17-25, 25-7, 25-16.

Baseball

Eastern beats Seton Catholic

Eastern Hancock scored seven first-inning runs and took advantage of nine Seton Catholic errors in a 13-1 victory in Richmond Monday.

The Royals got contributions up and down the batting order. Brayden Sullivan had two hits, including a double, a stolen base and two RBI. Caleb Retherford had two RBI, two runs scored and two stolen bases. Hayden Rouse had a double and an RBI.

Jalen Helderbrand had a hit and stolen base. Colton Dishman hit a triple. Chase Stewart had a stolen base and an RBI. Conner Wittgren had an RBI.

Gavin Jenkins and Carson Borden contributed at the plate and on the mound.

Jenkins was the winning pitcher, going three innings giving up two hits with five strikeouts. He had a hit, stolen base and an RBI.

Borden threw the final two innings and had four strikeouts. He stole two bases and scored two runs.

Boys golf

EH second of three

Eastern Hancock’s boys golf team defeated Morristown and finished two strokes back of Indy Genesis at a three-team match at Blue Bear Golf Course in Shelbyville Monday.

Indy Genesis shot 171. The Royals finished with a 173 and Morristown had a 250.

Leading the way for the Royals was Parker Atkins with a 38. Zach Stephens shot 41 and Corey Leece carded a 46. Jacob Jackson finished the team score with a 48 and Conner Cook shot 49.

Girls tennis

G-C defeats Yorktown

Greenfield-Central’s girls tennis team evened its overall record and won its first Hoosier Heritage Conference match of the season with a 3-2 victory over visiting Yorktown Monday.

The Cougars are 7-7 overall and 1-3 in the HHC. Yorktown dropped to 5-5 and 0-5.
