Donations for a book sale that will raise money for programs at the Hancock County Public Library are accepted this Saturday.

Book donations accepted this weekend

GREENFIELD – Drop off gently used books, DVDs, CDs and video games this Saturday at the Hancock County Public Library.

Donated items will be placed in book sales by the Friends of the Library, the non-profit charitable group of volunteers who raise money to help fund concerts, children’s performers and special projects at the library.

Drop-off is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 11 at the Bookmobile garage on the north side of the central library, 900 W. McKenzie Road, Greenfield. A tax receipt may be requested. For more, visit hcplibrary.org.

American Legion to benefit from dining event

GREENFIELD – A dining event fundraiser is coming up, raising money for American Legion Post 119 to aid veterans in need.

Dining with the Legion Day is from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 8 at Lincoln Square Pancake House, 118 W. Main St., Greenfield.

In addition to a percentage of proceeds at the restaurant going to veterans that day, there will be a donation box for patrons to donate directly. American Legion members will also be there to greet the public.

Ron Horning memorial golf event Friday

GREENFIELD – The Ron Horning Memorial Golf Classic is coming up May 10, benefiting the Boys and Girls Clubs of Hancock County.

This is the fourth annual event in memory of the former director of the club. Ron Horning joined as program director in 1977 and served there seven years before becoming executive director for 20 years. He is remembered as a father figure who cared for the youth of the community. Since his death in 2021, the club honors Horning by raising money for the Ron Horning Scholarship for graduating seniors.

The golf event begins at 7:30 a.m. at Arrowhead Golf Course, 3974 Clubhouse Drive, Greenfield.

Knightstown car show May 18

KNIGHTSTOWN – The Hickory Classic Car Show is 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 18.

The event, hosted by Justin’s Helping Hands, will be at the Hoosier Gym, 355 N. Washington St., Knightstown. It’s free to spectators and $15 to register a car. On-site tours of the Hoosier Gym are available, and there will also be food, a DJ, door prizes, vendor booths and more.

Food pantry to offer lunch, groceries

GREENFIELD – Enjoy a meal and free grocery pickup at Wellspring Food Pantry this week.

The pantry, located at Brandywine Community Church, is open for lunch at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 8. Food pantry pickup is from 1:30-3 p.m. New this month, receive a recipe bag with everything needed for dinner.

Lunch is served in the atrium of the church every second and fourth Wednesday of the month at 1551 E. New Road, Greenfield. Grocery pickup is drive-through style at the barn adjacent to the church. The next event is May 22. For questions, call 317-462-2015.
