HANCOCK COUNTY — An Indianapolis man with a lengthy criminal history is being accused of burglary and other crimes in the county following an incident in late April.

Chad Robert Orme, 49, 900 block of North Olney Street is currently sitting in the Hancock County Jail under a $50,000 cash bond. He’s been charged with a Level 2 felony count of burglary; a Level 5 felony count of burglary, a Class A misdemeanor count of false identity and a Class A misdemeanor count of resisting law enforcement.

Orme had an initial appearance in Hancock County Circuit Court late Friday. Judge Scott Sirk set the cash bond and ordered a jury trial set for Oct. 15.

According to a probable cause affidavit, on April 29 a deputy with the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department was checking on the 5000 block of Meridian Road after security cameras captured a male outside a door and the owner alerted authorities.

When the deputy arrived at the scene, he found a male standing outside a truck. According to the report, the deputy said the male quickly got into his truck and started to leave when the deputy, who was now outside his vehicle, told the male to pull over.

The deputy approached the man, who identified himself as Douglas Eastridge (who was released from the scene) and said his truck had broken down on Meridian Road but had started working when the deputy arrived.

Another deputy who had arrived on scene began to search around the property at this time and found another male, one with blond hair who had a trash bag over his shoulder and took off running. The deputy, who had his weapon in hand, ordered the man to stop running and he did, the report stated.

The deputy noted that the man was not following commands to lay on the ground on his stomach and refused to state his name when the deputy asked him to identify himself, the report stated.

The man eventually told police that his name was Tyler Hill and that he was born in 1994. He then told officials he had a warrant out for his arrest and his real name was Chad Orme, born in 1974, and that he had three warrants out of Johnson County, the report stated.

Officers noted Orme had jewelry in his pocket and told officials he found the trash bag outside the house. Orme also at one point tried to walk away from officers while they were talking with him, the report stated.

The property owners who alerted law enforcement told officials there were no trash bags outside the home when they were on the property just a day before.

Orme told officials he had permission to be on the property and was there to collect baseball cards that had been stored by the barn in the trash bag by a guy named Kevin, the report stated. Orme however, admitted it was the second time he’d been on the property and the first time he was there he had actually gone into the house.

A look at Orme’s officials court records shows he has been involved in over 20 criminal cases in the state including two open drug and one open theft related case in Johnson County.
