The Indiana High School Athletic Association announced pairings Sunday for its 39th Annual IHSAA Softball State Tournament.
Three of four Hancock County schools play in Class 4A Sectional 9. Eastern Hancock plays in Class 2A Sectional 41.
Sectional 9 includes Greenfield-Central, Mt. Vernon and New Palestine. This year’s tournament will be played at Pendleton Heights High School from May 20-23.
Sectionals are set to be played across the state from May 20-25.
The Sectional 41 tournament at Knightstown High School has not yet announced dates and times for its tournament.
Opening Sectional 9, Mt. Vernon (5-8) will take on Richmond (1-7-1) on Monday, May 20 at 6 p.m.
Two games will be played on Tuesday May 21, beginning at 5:30 p.m. with Muncie Central (0-7) taking on No. 3 New Palestine (10-0) followed by Anderson (3-4) facing No. 13 and defending sectional champion Pendleton Heights (11-7).
On Wednesday, May 22, Greenfield-Central (8-5) is scheduled to play the winner of the Mt. Vernon/Richmond game at 5:30 p.m. The second semifinal will follow between the winners of Game 2 and Game 3. The championship is scheduled for Thursday, May 23 at 6 p.m.
Pendleton Heights defeated New Palestine in last year’s sectional championship game.
No. 13 Eastern Hancock (9-1) will play in Game 1 of the Knightstown Sectional against Hagerstown (9-2). Game 2 will have host Knightstown (3-8) taking on Northeastern (7-3).
Eastern Hancock defeated Hagerstown 15-0 on April 17 at Hagerstown.
In Game 3, Shenandoah (7-3) plays the winner of Eastern Hancock/Hagerstown in the first of two semifinal games.
In Game 4, defending sectional champion No. 11 Union County (7-7) plays the winner of Knightstown/Northeastern.
Eastern Hancock lost to Union County, 6-5 in eight innings, in last year’s sectional championship game.
The winners of Sectional 9 and Sectional 41 will both go on the road for the regional round, scheduled for Tuesday, May 28.
The Sectional 9 champion will play at the Sectional 10 winner, a tournament that includes, Cathedral, Pike, Lawrence Central, Lawrence North, Ben Davis, North Central and Crispus Attucks.
The Sectional 41 winner travels to the Sectional 42 winner, a tournament that includes Christel House, Irvington Prep, Heritage Christian, Scecina, Park Tudor and Triton Central.
Four-team semi-state tournaments are set for Saturday, June 1. The Class 4A South Semi-State is at Bedford North Lawrence. The Class 2A South Semi-State is at Forest Park. State championship games will be played at Purdue University’s Bittinger Stadium on June 7-8.
