New Palestine had a 10-run inning and still had to hold off Noblesville to record an 18-16 victory on the road Monday.

With the win, New Palestine’s softball team is 7-0 on the season. Noblesville dropped to 6-7.

The Dragons are tied for fourth in the latest Class 4A Softball Coaches Association of Indiana poll.

The fifth inning was the only frame where neither team scored.

The Dragons scored four in the first, but were quickly answered by the Millers.

Trailing 7-5, New Palestine scored 10 runs in the fourth inning. The lead was 18-12 heading to the bottom of the seventh inning.

The Dragons had 17 hits. The Millers had 19.

New Palestine hit five home runs. Paige Ernstes hit two homers, including a grand slam, and had six RBI. Katie Hirschy had a pair of solo home runs. Allie Blum also had a home run.

Ernstes, Hirschy and Blum each had three hits. Blum added a double and had four RBI. Hirschy also had a double.

Reese Rosenbaum, Sydney Oliver and Ella Holman each had two hits. Holman and Payton Dye each had two RBI.

Hirschy scored four times. Oliver and Jersi Gross each scored three times.

Noblesville hit six home runs.

In relief, Sadey Hughbanks earned the victory. Cailyn Hurst picked up a save.

New Palestine was scheduled to host New Castle in a Hoosier Heritage Conference game Tuesday.

Royals win seventh straight

Eastern Hancock won its seventh straight softball game with a 12-1 victory at Knightstown Monday.

It was the fourth straight game the Royals have scored 10 or more runs and fifth double-figure scoring game of the season. The lone loss came in the season opener in March against Class 4A Brownsburg.

At Knightstown Monday, Addisyn Trackwell had three hits, including a double and triple, and drove in three runs. Lilli Ringer and Emily Hodges each had two hits and two RBI. Brooklyn Willis and Emree Truitt each had two hits.

Ringer scored three times. Sammie Bolding, Willis, Hodges and Trackwell all scored twice.

Chyan Evans, Truitt and Willis all recorded an RBI.

In the circle, McKenna Stewart (three innings) and Tatem Adams (two innings) combined to strike out 10 and give up just three hits.

Eastern Hancock, ranked No. 12 in the latest Class 2A Softball Coaches Association of Indiana rankings, was scheduled to play at Mid-Eastern Conference foe Daleville on Tuesday.

Marauders win HHC game

Mt. Vernon (4-7, 2-2) blanked Delta 16-0 Monday in a Hoosier Heritage Conference game at Mt. Vernon High School.

Graci Hines pitched a one-hitter and struck out six in a five-inning complete game.

Shelby Rakosky and Emma Jenkins each had home runs for the Marauders.

Rakosky had two hits and five RBI. Mikayla Oger had three hits and an RBI. Easton Wampler had a double and two RBI. Hannah Mathews drove in two runs. Ainsley Baer had two hits, scored two runs and had an RBI.

Lili Jenkins, Addy Riffle, Maddy Johnson, Matthews, Oger and Rakosky also scored twice each.

Baseball

Dragons score 21 runs

Tied 8-8 after two innings, New Palestine’s baseball team scored 13 straight runs for a 21-8 victory at Knighstown Monday.

The Dragons had 18 hits. Rigg Mahurin and Jackson Kamp both had four. Mahurin had two doubles and three RBI. Kamp drove in two and hit three doubles.

Jacob Morris had a home run and double and drove in seven. Henry Thorpe had a hit and three RBI.

Nic Deering had two hits, including a double, and drove in two.

Wyatt Matheis and Michael Thorpe both had two hits.

Adam Rickey, Michael Thorpe, Morris and Matheis each scored three runs.

The Dragons used five pitchers. Henry Thorpe threw two innings in relief to pick up the win. He struck out three and did not give up a hit or a walk.

The Dragons were scheduled to play the first game of a two-game HHC series at home Tuesday against first-place Greenfield-Central.

Mt. Vernon wins fifth straight

Mt. Vernon’s baseball team improved to 7-4 on the season with an 8-4 victory over visiting Anderson Monday.

It was the Marauders fifth straight victory.

Caden Taylor picked up the win. He struck out eight in 4.2 innings pitched. Nathan Criss struck out four and did not give up a hit in 2.1 innings on the mound and earned the save.

Offensively, Hayden Ford went 3-for-3 with a double, home run and three RBI.

DJ Scheumann had a triple and two RBI. Criss had two hits, including a double, and an RBI.

Mt. Vernon’s scheduled Game 1 of a two-game Hoosier Heritage Conference series with Pendleton Heights, at Pendleton, was postponed Tuesday and was rescheduled to be played Thursday.

Boys golf

Marauders beat Cougars

Mt. Vernon’s boys golf team defeated Greenfield-Central 162-174 Monday.

Marauder freshman Elijah Lemmon was medalist with a 37. Asher Cotton shot 41. Brady Pearson and Drew Lowder both carded 42s for MV.

Greenfield-Central was scheduled to play at Rushville Tuesday. Mt. Vernon is slated to host Lawrence North today at Ironwood Golf Course.

Eastern second of three

Eastern Hancock’s boys golf team finished second in a three-team meet Monday.

Northeastern won with a score of 169. Eastern Hancock shot 175 and Tri finished with 180.

Eastern Hancock was led by Parker Atkins and Jacob Jackson with 42s. Corey Leece shot a 44. Zach Stephens and Conner Cook both had 47s.

The Royals were scheduled to host Blue River Valley and Union at Royal Hylands Tuesday.

Girls tennis

Mt. Vernon sweeps

Mt. Vernon’s girls tennis team continued its run of victories with a 5-0 triumph at Shelbyville Monday.

The Marauders are 7-0 on the season and 4-0 in the Hoosier Heritage Conference.

Caroline Allen won at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-0. Ginni Morelli had the most competitive match of the night at No. 2 singles, winning 6-4, 7-5. Maria Downs won at No. 3 6-0, 6-1.

Both doubles teams, Kylie Brandes/Ava Lusby, at No. 1, and Addie Lockwood/Sophie Maxwell, at No. 2, won by 6-0, 6-0 scores.

The Marauders travel to Yorktown Thursday.

Cougars lose at Alexandria

Greenfield-Central’s girls tennis team dropped a 4-1 decision at Alexandria-Monroe on Monday.

The Cougars were scheduled to be back in action Tuesday at New Palestine, but the match was postponed to May 11 at 10 a.m.

G-C will host a Hoosier Heritage Conference match Thursday against New Castle.

Boys volleyball

Dragons beat Bears

New Palestine’s boys volleyball team improved to 9-10 on the season with a 3-0 victory at Shelbyville Monday.

The Dragons won by set scores of 25-14, 25-21, 25-23. Shelbyville dropped to 5-10.

New Palestine welcomes Whiteland on Thursday.
