GREENFIELD – A free, week-long experience helping youngsters prepare for kindergarten returns this summer.

Kindergarten 101 is July 22-26 at J.B. Stephens Elementary School, 1331 N. Blue Road, Greenfield. Students enrolling in the 2024-25 school year will be able to participate in common kindergarten activities, such as lunch, recess, small group activities, daily read alouds and more. The goal is to install a love of learning and excitement to prepare for a successful school year.

Academic competition coming to G-CHS

GREENFIELD – Greenfield-Central High School will host a statewide academic competition April 16.

The school is among 26 schools statewide to host the 38th annual Indiana Academic Superbowl, hosted by the Indiana Association of School Principals and Purdue University. In total, 5,100 students from 260 high schools will compete.

Subject rounds will be in social studies, math, English, science and fine arts; the theme of the 2024 competition is “The End of the Second Milennium: The 1980s and 1990s.” The spirited competition has spectator appeal, according to a press release. Bowling fundraiser for GCSF coming up

GREENFIELD – Greenfield-Central students will benefit from an upcoming bowling fundraiser at Strike Force Lanes.

Bowl for Greenfield-Central Students is from 1:30-4:30 pm. April 14 at 1539 W. Main St., Greenfield.

Hosted by the Greenfield Central School Foundation, the money raised at the event will support special projects and grants to local classrooms.

Cost is $13 per person and includes three games of bowling and shoes. There will also be face painting, balloon animals, a photo booth and silent auction. The classroom with the greatest attendance receives a pizza party and the teacher receives a $50 Amazon gift card. Bring a Kroger Rewards card to enter for other prizes.

Parker to informally connect with community

FORTVILLE – Superintendent Dr. Jack Parker of Mt. Vernon schools will be hosting “traveling talks” events this spring.

The events are an opportunity for members of the community to informally meet with the superintendent and share their thoughts, questions and concerns about the schools.

No reservation is necessary. Talks are scheduled for noon this Friday at Sero’s Family Restaurant, 11720 E. Washington St., Indianapolis; and 7 p.m. April 18 at Libby’s Ice Cream & Gifts, 11 S. Main St., Fortville. Participants can enjoy a a free cookie or $1 of ice cream at the Libby’s event.

G-C Alumni Hall of Fame open

GREENFIELD – Nominations are open now for the next class of the Greenfield-Central Alumni Hall of Fame.

The 2024 award will honor and celebrate the successful lives and impactful contributions of Greenfield-Central graduates, including those from Eden, Greenfield, Hancock Central and Maxwell high schools. It recognizes the education provided by Greenfield-Central schools and is honored by the Greenfield Central School Foundation, which seeks to connect the community to the classroom.
