Air show volunteer opportunities available

GREENFIELD – Adult volunteers to help with parking, concessions and more are sought for the upcoming Crossroads Air Show, and admission and parking is free for volunteers.

Crossroads Air Show will be Oct. 28-29 at the Indianapolis Regional Airport in Greenfield and will feature the U.S. Navy Blue Angels. To learn more about volunteering and getting free admission and complimentary lunch, visit crossroadsbsa.org/crossroads-air-show/volunteer.

Meanwhile, parking and admissions tickets can be purchased online, and funds from the Crossroad Air Show will support central Indiana scouting groups, Riley Children’s Foundation and the Catch the Stars Foundation. Single-day admission tickets range from $10 for general admission to $1,600 for a table of eight at the Flight Line Club. Sunday tickets are still available. Photo tours can be purchased as an add-on for $25. General admission is free for youth cub scouts and children ages 5 and under.

Single-day parking passes are required to attend the air show and are not included with an admission ticket. A standard parking pass is $150, motorcycle parking is $50 and bus parking is $500.

Dog-themed Halloween event set

GREENFIELD – Join Greenfield Parks and local pet care businesses and organizations for a vendor fair from 1-4 p.m. Oct. 21.

Rover’s Howl-O-Ween will be at Rover’s Run Bark Park in Beckenholdt Park, 2770 N. Franklin St., Greenfield.

Fire dog demonstrations Thursday

HANCOCK COUNTY – Families are invited to meet Kasey the Fire Dog at both Hancock County Public Library locations Oct. 12. Kasey will be part of a demonstration of fire safety at at 10 a.m at the main library in Greenfield; and at 2 p.m. at the Sugar Creek Branch in New Palestine.

Kasey is a Labrador Retriever that teaches children fire and life safety skills. Kasey and her partner firefighter/paramedic Jeff Owens will demonstrate and teach life-saving skills such as: stop, drop and roll; feeling a door to see if it’s hot before opening it; crawling under smoke to escape; calling 911 when you have an emergency and more.

The main library is located at 900 W. McKenzie Road in Greenfield; the Sugar Creek branch is at 5731 W. U.S. 52 in New Palestine. Register online at hcplibrary.org or call 317-462-5141, ext. 240. Register each person attending, including adults.

Libraries offer programs for adults

HANCOCK COUNTY – Local libraries are hosting several programs for adults throughout the month of October.

Explore genealogy resources at the Indiana State Library via computer lab at the main branch in an event at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 23, located at 900 W. McKenzie Road, Greenfield.

The libraries in Greenfield and New Palestine also offer several book clubs and craft events for adults. Register for events or learn more at hcplibrary.org.

The Vernon Township Public Library has a Tuesday Morning Club for seniors at 10:30 a.m. each Tuesday. The library also offers adult English literacy and conversation classes. The library is located at 625 E. Broadway St., Fortville; visit vtpl.lib.in.us for more.
