New Palestine’s softball team defeated host Delta 19-2 Friday to clinch a share of the Hoosier Heritage Conference title.

The Dragons finished 6-1 in league play, tying for the top spot with Shelbyville.

They finished the regular season with a 21-4 record, the program’s 20th straight 20-plus win season.

Against the Eagles Friday, the Dragons had an 11-run third inning.

Maddie Engle had a home run and three RBIs. Paige Ernstes went 4-for-4 with five RBIs.

New Palestine hit seven doubles. Kayla Bain and Ella Holman each had two.

The Dragons open sectional play, at home, Monday against Mt. Vernon at 6 p.m.

Marauders lose to No. 5 CG

The Mt. Vernon softball team dropped a 4-3 decision at Class 4A No. 5 Center Grove Thursday.

The Marauders scored all of their runs in the first inning.

Drew Fithian and Libby Gee-Weiler each hit doubles. Fithian, Emma Jenkins and Shelby Rakosky each had an RBI. Gee-Weiler, Fithian and Rakosky scored runs.

Mt. Vernon (14-10) had 10 hits.

The Marauders are scheduled to play West Washington today at 10 a.m. in the Mt. Vernon Softball Tournament.

Baseball

Royals win big in Muncie

Eastern Hancock’s baseball team defeated Muncie Burris 15-1 Thursday at Muncie’s McCullough Park.

The Royals had a nine-run second inning.

Conner Wittgren had three hits, including a double. Colton Dishman had two hits and an RBI. Chase Stewart hit a triple and Hayden Rouse had a double.

Six different players had an RBI.

The Royals improved to 10-14 with the win and are scheduled to play a doubleheader at Blackford today.
