The Hancock County Health Department inspects restaurants four times annually and violations are determined as “C” for critical, “NC” for noncritical and “R” for repeated violations. The following inspections are based on information obtained from Retail Food Inspection reports.

Nov. 17

Wasabi Japanese Steakhouse

1505 N. State St., Greenfield

Violations found: C – dish machine not dispensing sanitizer, corrected; NC – ice scoop stored on top of ice machine, corrected; C – knives in holders used at hibachi tables have food debris, corrected; NC – debris build-up on some shelving in walk-in cooler and carts holding dirty dishes, sides under hibachi grills have debris, corrected; C – employee observed touching salad with bare hands, corrected; C – sushi does not have time log, corrected.

Dec. 1

Greenfield Elks Lodge

820 S. State St., Greenfield

Violations found: C – some utensils in drawer have debris, to be corrected by Dec. 2; NC – sides of fryers and grill have debris build-up, to be corrected by Dec. 8; NC – drain line at hand sink is leaking, to be corrected by Dec. 15; NC – repair flooring in kitchen near table with garbage disposal, to be corrected by Jan. 31.

Violations found: NC – need to provide soap at hand sink in deli area, to be corrected by Dec. 5; NC – need to provide paper towels at hand sink in deli area, to be corrected by Dec. 5; NC – debris in refrigeration unit by entry into meat cutting room, debris on reach-in freezer, debris on cooler table, to be corrected by Dec. 5; NC – debris on wall/floor in area of stoves, to be corrected by Dec. 5; NC, R – leak at pipes under three-compartment sink; NC – floor in meat-cutting room, walk-in cooler and where stoves are located is in disrepair, to be corrected by Dec. 5.

Violations found: NC – no soap provided at hand sink in bar area, to be corrected by Dec. 12; NC, R – no paper towels at hand sink in bar area, to be corrected by Dec. 12; NC, R – test strips for dish machines need to have concentration scale provided, to be corrected by Dec. 12; C, R – dish machines in kitchen and bar area are not dispensing sanitizer, corrected; C, R – spray bottles with chemical were not labeled with common name of chemical, corrected; NC – scoops in bar area need to be stored in a clean, protected way between uses, to be corrected by Dec. 12.
