MCCORDSVILLE — Officials from the McCordsville Police Department say they were called to help an adult male experiencing a “mental health crisis” at his home during the morning and early afternoon hours of Thursday, Dec. 1.

The incident was resolved peacefully, and the man was transported to a local hospital for a mental health evaluation, officials said in a press release.

Officers with the MPD were dispatched for a welfare check to a residence in the 6300 block of Fawn Way Thursday morning. That’s where the resident made statements he wanted to harm himself or others and officials noted there were weapons in the residence. The man was also the only person inside the home.

Officers attempted to open a dialogue with the man in distress, but were unsuccessful, officials said. The area was secured and nearby residents were notified. At approximately 1 p.m. Thursday afternoon, the male willingly exited his home without trouble. He was then safely transported to the hospital for an evaluation. There were no injuries to any citizens or officers.

Officials with the MPD want to remind area residents the holidays can be a difficult time for some, and they encourage those persons to utilize any of the available mental health resources in the community.

In addition to the MPD, officials from the Greenfield Police Department, Shirley Police Department, Hancock County Sheriff’s Department, Fortville Police Department, New Palestine Police Department, and Vernon Township Fire Department assisted in the incident.
