Plant sale begins May 2

HANCOCK COUNTY — Organizers of an annual plant sale that took place for 20 years at Amity Community Church are moving it this year.

The sale will be outside Realife Church, 5151 W. U.S. 40, this year. It will run from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. May 2-4.

The same vendors will be at the sale as in years past, offering items for sale including annuals, perennials, herbs, vegetable plants, lilies, hostas, trellises, yard decor, trees, bushes and primitive items. Proceeds from the event will benefit Realife Church missions.

The free financial education series includes dinner and childcare. Meetings are from 6-7:30 p.m. May 16, 23 and 30; and June 6, 13 and 20. The location is City Church, 400 S. Noble St.

No prayer service this year on plaza

GREENFIELD — Thursday is designated as the National Day of Prayer. There is no service planned in downtown Greenfield this year as in years past.

Members of the local ministerial association traditionally organize the event, which has taken place for about 30 years (except in 2020). The 2022 midday event, as an example, drew about 60 people.

Some members say the noon service on Hancock County Courthouse Plaza is subject to weather, and that can drive attendance down. In the past, services rained out from the plaza have taken place inside a nearby church or at Greenfield’s city hall.

“As the community is growing, we just felt it was a good time to reevaluate and consider coming back with something new next year,” Adam Detamore, one of the pastors in the association, wrote in an email.

Those looking for a prayer service can check the National Day of Prayer Task Force site, which offers a place to search for nearby NDP events by zip code (https://www.nationaldayofprayer.org/events/gathering-search).

Among the events taking place in Indiana are an observance at noon Thursday in the north atrium of the Indiana Statehouse, an event at noon Thursday at Carmel City Hall, and an outdoor prayer gathering at 6 p.m. Thursday at 300 S. Madison Ave. in Greenwood.

The task force’s website (www.nationaldayofprayer.org) also offers other resources and downloadable prayer guides for individuals and families.

Fields of Faith coming Sunday

FORTVILLE — Hancock County’s Fellowship of Christian Athletes groups plan an evening of games, worship and a guest speaker designed to encourage students in their faith.

Fields of Faith is set for 5-8 p.m. April 28 at Mt. Vernon High School.

“It’s open to all, free to all,” said Nick Holliday, FCA coordinator for Hancock County. “We encourage anyone who wants to gather for a community night of worship and a great testimony to come.”

Group games will be set up in the school’s auxiliary gym. After time for informal connection there, those gathered will shift to the main gym for speakers and music by the band Attaboy.

This year’s keynote speaker is Kevin Atlas, who became the first athlete missing a limb to earn a Division I basketball scholarship.

Admission is free, but a ticket is needed; find it at www.indyfca.org/fields-of-faith.

‘Grief and Caregiving’ workshop is free

GREENFIELD — A free workshop is coming, “Grief and Caregiving: How do either grief or caregiving test our faith and yet grow it deeper?”

The Rev. Russ Jarvis, lead chaplain at Hancock Regional Hospital, will lead the workshop from 6-8:30 p.m. May 8 at Greenfield Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), 23 N. East St.

There is no fee, but registration is required by May 1 by calling 317-462-6348 or sending email to [email protected].
