Cumberland holiday activities scheduled

CUMBERLAND – Cumberland’s annual holiday celebration “Weihnachsmarkt” is scheduled for Dec. 3 with family-friendly, free events.

The day begins at 11 a.m. with a juried artisan vendor tent, followed by musical guests Marionettes & Magic. From noon to 4 p.m. are carriage rides with Vogt Farms, and from noon to 5 p.m. is Santa and Mrs. Claus at St. Nicholas House; free balloon art and face painting in the entertainment tent. There will also be a reindeer obstacle course for children, holiday music with local choirs, a tuba quartet, live reindeer, carolers and even an Abe Lincoln actor roaming East Washington Street, talking about the Lincoln death train that rolled through what is now the Pennsy Trail.

A light parade begins at 6 p.m. followed by a tree lighting and live entertainment by The Bishops. Food and drink trucks will be on site. Parking is available on the east end of the Meijer parking lot; handicapped parking is available at Cumberland Town Hall, 11501 E. Washington St.

Christmas tree events benefit Octagon House

SHIRLEY – The 23rd annual Christmas Tree Walk is at the historic Octagon House in Shirley is happening on select Friday and Saturdays in December.

The walk is open 4-8 p.m. Dec. 2, Dec. 3, Dec. 9 and Dec. 10. Tours are free; there will be food on site with proceeds benefiting the restoration of the Octagon House. The first weekend will include chicken and noodles, dessert and drink at $14, and includes a visit with Santa Claus. The second weekend will feature soup, sandwich, dessert and a drink for $12.

Greenfield leaf pickup continues this month

GREENFIELD – The city of Greenfield is wrapping up its leaf pickup program.

Leaves must be raked to a curbside. Bagged leaves must also be placed at the curbside and will be picked up within two working days after calling the Greenfield Street Department, 317-477-4380.

Greenfield city residents on the east side of Ind. 9 will have leaf pickup Nov. 28-Dec. 2.

Residents on the west side of Ind. 9 will have leaves picked up today, Nov. 25; and Dec. 5-9.

Leaves should be at the curb by 8 a.m. the Monday of the scheduled week to ensure pickup. The schedule is subject to change due to weather and availability of machinery and crews.
