The Hancock County Health Department inspects restaurants four times annually and violations are determined as “C” for critical, “NC” for noncritical and “R” for repeated violations. The following inspections are based on information obtained from Retail Food Inspection reports and are routine inspections, unless otherwise noted.

Aug. 15

Subway

323 S. Oak St., Fortville

Violations found: NC, R – debris build-up on floors under some equipment and along edges in prep area, to be corrected by Aug. 22; NC – debris in and on top of food prep sink in back prep area, debris on ice buckets and shelving under cashier area, to be corrected by Aug. 22; NC, R – gaps in front door and back door, to be corrected by Aug. 22.

Violations found: C, R – one piece of deli meat slab in case exceeding seven days, corrected; C – one piece of deli meat slab had expired date mark, corrected; NC – some ice build-up in walk-in freezer near cake decorating area, to be corrected by Aug. 29; NC, R – dish machine in bakery area has a rinse cycle where temperature device not working, to be corrected by Aug. 29.

Violations found: NC, R2 – utensils with eating surface up, corrected; NC, R – some debris accumulation on walls and floors under equipment in kitchen, to be corrected by Sept. 6; NC, R – grease debris on tables and equipment in kitchen, some debris in reach-in coolers and underside of shelf pass-through, to be corrected by Sept. 6.
