Music, dancing and drinks will raise money for local nonprofits

HANCOCK COUNTY – Music, dancing and drinks are on the docket this fall as several local agencies are using entertainment to raise money for a good cause.

Here’s a look at some upcoming fundraisers, and how to get involved.

Indianapolis Brass Choir

A benefit concert featuring the Indianapolis Brass Choir is coming up at 4 p.m. this Sunday, Oct. 16.

The free performance will include a good will offering for Love in the Name of Christ of Greater Hancock County. The organization mobilizes local churches to help people in the community.

The concert is at Park Chapel Christian Church, 1176 E. McKenzie Road, Greenfield.

Dancing with the Local Stars

A competition-style dance event benefiting the Women’s Resource Center is coming up next week.

Adaggios Banquet Hall will host the annual Dancing with the Local Stars event at 6 p.m. Oct. 21.

The $40 event includes dinner from City BBQ, and a current lineup of dancers for the competition including Chantel Fowler of the Hancock County Boys and Girls Club; Tammy Settergren of Hancock County CASA; Sherry Haines of Miller’s Jewelry; Mary Schuck of The Gilded Nest; Lacie Edon, local volunteer for several nonprofits; and Jennifer Johnston, the Greenfield-Central High School varsity dance coach. The event also includes a cash bar and silent auction. Proceeds benefit the Women’s Resource Center, which provides mentoring, guidance and connections to help women and their families be financially self-sufficient. Get tickets at hcwrc.org.

Boots & Bourbon

Meals on Wheels of Hancock County presents Boots & Bourbon, a bourbon, spirits and wine-tasting event Oct. 22 at the Hancock County Fairgrounds. Sample bourbon and spirits from large to small regional distilleries, and wine tastings featuring more than 120 different labels. Included in general admission are tastings, savory appetizers, live music, auctions and more.

The event is 4-7 p.m. with a VIP early entry available at 3 p.m.. Tickets range from $15 to $75; people must be at least 21 to attend. Buy tickets at bootsandbourbon.org. An additional donation of $25 puts participants in a drawing for bourbon gift bags.

Meals on Wheels helps people maintain an independent lifestyle for local residents through the delivery of meals in accordance with prescribed dietary needs.

Diamonds and Denim

Head to downtown Greenfield for a gala and auction Oct. 22 celebrating Hancock County Arts.

The third annual Diamonds and Denim fundraiser begins at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 22 at Bradley Hall Ballroom with live music featuring the Greenfield Community Orchestra Chamber Group. The event includes food, a cash bar and last-minute bidding for art, which began online earlier this month and concludes at 9 p.m. at the event.

Fall That Jazz Gala

The fifth annual Fall That Jazz Gala will feature the Cool City Band and their vocalists in an event benefiting Nameless Creek Camp.

Tickets are $60 per person and include dinner, drinks, and entertainment; the event will also feature a live and silent auction.

Fall That Jazz is scheduled for 7-11 p.m. Nov. 4 at the Nameless Creek Camp Lodge, just south of Greenfield at 2675 S. 600 E. Get tickets at namelesscreekyouthcamp.com. The camp provides year-round recreational, educational and camping activities for youth and families.
