Bulmahn named top frosh

Southern Illinois University’s Ceci Bulmahn, a freshman outside hitter and former standout at Mt. Vernon, was named the Missouri Valley Conference Freshman of the Week.

With a combined 23 kills and 23 digs in victories at Evansville and Indiana State, Southern Illinois University freshman outside hitter Ceci Bulmahn was selected the Missouri Valley Conference Freshman of the Week.

Bulmahn, a former standout volleyball player at Mt. Vernon High School, averaged 3.29 kills, 3.29 digs and 3.64 points per set. She had a career-best 22 digs in a four-set victory Saturday at ISU and career-high three blocks in the three-set win at Evansville.

Hunt is top blocker

Former Eastern Hancock standout Lili Hunt has been one of the top volleyball performers for Concordia University of Chicago this season.

A 5-11 freshman middle blocker for the NCAA Division III program, Hunt leads the team in blocks with 49, including three solos. She has 14 total blocks in her last four matches.

On offense, she is third on the team in kills with 70, with a season-high eight last week in a five-set match against Marian (Wisc.).

V. Bulmahn key cog for 17-2 Valpo

Valparaiso’s volleyball team has won four straight matches and is 17-2 on the season.

Junior setter Victoria Bulmahn, the former standout at Mt. Vernon High School, has been one of the Beacons top performers.

In a five-set win Saturday over Belmont, Bulmahn had a career-best 35 assists and 11 digs. In a 3-0 win Friday over Murray State, she had a three service aces.

At 5-2 in Missouri Valley Conference play, Valparaiso is second in the conference standings.

Bulmahn ranks No. 11 in the MVC in assists averaging 5.01 per set.

Hornaday has career-high

Gardner-Webb freshman setter Morgan Hornaday, a former standout at Greenfield-Central High School, had a career-best 57 assists in a five-set loss to Presbyterian Saturday.

She also had nine digs and two total blocks.

Hornaday ranks fourth in the Big South Conference in assists at 7.48 per set.

Schwarzkopf, Herrell are top Panthers

Two former Greenfield-Central grads are helping lead the way for the Hanover College volleyball team.

Molly Schwarzkopf is Hanover’s leader in blocks with 59, including 13 solos. Brooke Herrell is fourth on the team with 19 and three solos.

They rank third and fourth on the team in kills, too. Schwarzkopf is third with 105. Herrell has 68.

A sophomore middle hitter, Schwarzkopf had a season-high 11 kills in a five-set Heartland Collegiate Conference loss against Earlham last week. She had eight blocks in a Sept. 27 victory over Asbury.

A sophomore outside/right side hitter, Herrell had a season-best three blocks against Earlham. Earlier in the season, she had a season-best eight kills in a five-set non-conference loss to Baldwin-Wallace.

Myers leads DePauw in digs

Former New Palestine libero Grace Myers is off to a good start in her first college volleyball season.

Myers, a freshman at DePauw University, leads the Tigers in digs with 298, averaging 4.2 per set, ranking fifth in the North Coast Athletic Conference.

A 5-7 defensive specialist, she has been over 20 digs in a match seven times, with a season-high 26 in a four-set loss last week against Greenville.

She has a service ace in nine straight matches and is third on her team in the category with 25. She ranks 15th in the NCAC at .35 aces per match.
