New Palestine senior middle blocker Reagan Kleiman had 27 kills to lead the Dragons to a 3-1 victory at Triton Central Thursday.

New Palestine (18-3) won by set scores of 23-25, 25-16, 25-20, 25-17.

Lauren Wilson had 22 digs and 12 kills. Libero Honour Mallory had 21 digs. Bella Brownfield had 13 digs and nine kills.

Setter Isabella Gizzi had a double-double with 41 assists and 13 digs.

“Great solid win against a scrappy team,” coach Jamie Morris said. “Reagan was unstoppable in the middle. Isabella did a nice job feeding her the ball and also distributing the ball to the other hitters.

“I thought we were very mentally tough against a tough crowd. After losing the close first set, we did a phenomenal job of being locked in and taking the next three.”

New Palestine plays Winchester today at 10:30 a.m. in the first match of the Richmond Invitational.

Mt. Vernon sweeps Shelbyville

Mt. Vernon earned a 3-0 Hoosier Heritage Conference volleyball victory at Shelbyville Thursday.

The Marauders won by set scores of 25-10, 25-18, 25-13.

Sophia Damer led the Mt. Vernon (10-15, 2-4) attack with eight kills. Libby Gee-Weiler had 15 digs. Setter Ava Whitmore had 24 assists.

Shelbyville dropped to 5-19 and 0-6 in the HHC.

Next up for the Marauders is a home match 6 p.m. Monday against Shenandoah.

Cougars lose to Arabians in 5

Greenfield-Central lost a five-set marathon match against visiting Hoosier Heritage Conference foe Pendleton Heights Thursday.

The Cougars lost by set scores of 25-23, 22-25, 25-18, 21-25, 19-17.

Greenfield-Central (9-13, 1-6) got double-doubles from Mya Grigsby and Rilee Roland.

Grigsby had 23 kills and 22 digs. Roland had 19 kills and 12 digs.

Katie Muegge added 16 digs. Libero Finnley Greene had 12 digs and two service aces.

Emma Berty recorded seven blocks. Makenna Rankins dished out 50 assists.

Pendleton Heights improved to 19-9 overall and 4-3 in the HHC.

The Cougars will play at Guerin Catholic today at 10 a.m.

Mt. Vernon shuts out Rushville

Mt. Vernon (9-5) had five different players score goals in a 5-0 victory over visiting Rushville (3-12-1) Thursday.

Charlie Cole, Evan LeRoy, Zach Johnson, Ethan Tucker and Akseli Huopalahti scored for the Marauders. Xander Sokol, Cole Duffy, Brennan LaBelle and Johnson each had assists.

Huopalahti’s goal was his team-leading ninth of the season.

It was the final regular-season match. Mt. Vernon will take on East Central (12-2-1) 7:15 p.m. Tuesday in Shelbyville Class 3A Sectional 12.

Dragons lose HHC match at PH

New Palestine wrapped up its regular season with a 4-1 loss at Hoosier Heritage Conference rival Pendleton Heights Thursday.

Elliott Canova had the lone goal for the Dragons, his team-best 15th of the season. Andrew Potter had the assist.

Pendleton Heights finished runner-up in the HHC with a 6-1 league mark. The Arabians are 10-6 overall.

New Palestine (8-7-1, 2-5) takes on the Greenfield-Central/Shelbyville winner 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in a semifinal round matchup in Shelbyville Class 3A Sectional 12.

Girls soccer

G-C defeated by Heritage Christian

Greenfield-Central (8-7-1) ended the regular season with a 5-1 loss, at home, to Heritage Christian Thursday.

The Cougars will play 5 p.m. Tuesday against East Central (11-3-1) in the first round of New Palestine Class 3A Sectional 12.

Dragons lose season finale

New Palestine lost its final regular season match, 4-0 to Roncalli (8-7-1), at home Thursday.

The Dragons finished the regular season with a record of 10-5-1. They will play No. 19 Mt. Vernon (10-5) in a semifinal match 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 6 in New Palestine Class 3A Sectional 12.
