Mt. Vernon was runner-up and Greenfield-Central finished fourth in the 10-team Pendleton Heights Girls Track and Field Invitational Tuesday.

Greenfield-Central’s Savannah Lake won both the 100-meter (12.56 seconds) and 200-meter (26.54) dashes. Cougar teammate Addison Buckley won the 300 hurdles (49.35).

For Mt. Vernon, Londyn Floyd, Ani’ya Williams, Marissa Miner and Molly Worth won the 4×100-meter relay (50.36). Laurel Hoeppner won the high jump (5-feet, 2-inches).

Royals lose to Red Devils

Eastern Hancock’s girls track and field team lost 61-52 to visiting Richmond Tuesday.

Bella Sotelo won the 200-meter dash (27.3 seconds), 1o0 hurdles (no time available), and 300 hurdles (51.3). Ellie Meyer won the 400 (1-minute, 9.3 seconds) and high jump (4-feet, 10-inches).

Clara Wallace, Kaylee Swan, Alexandria Saavedra and Meyer won the 4×400-meter relay (no time available).

Softball

Dragons remain unbeaten

With a 15-0 win over New Castle Tuesday, New Palestine’s softball team improved to 8-0 overall and 3-0 in the Hoosier Heritage Conference.

Katie Hirschy had three hits, including a triple and home run, and drove in five runs. Allie Blum had three hits, with a double and home run. Maddie Engle also had a home run.

Nyla Lewis had two hits, including a triple. Paige Ernstes and Kylee Beranek also had triples.

Lewis, Ernstes and Sydney Oliver had two RBI each.

Pitchers Courtney Study, Sadey Hughbanks and Cailyn Hurst, in five innings of work, had 11 strikeouts and gave up four hits.

On Wednesday, the Dragons moved to 9-0 winning a battle of ranked teams.

The No. 4 Dragons beat host Center Grove, ranked No. 9, 14-9.

The Dragons took control with an eight-run third inning.

Hirschy had a home run and three RBI. Ernstes had three hits, including a double, and five RBI. Reese Rosenbaum had a double and an RBI.

Blum and Engle each had two hits. Blum scored three runs. Payton Dye had two RBI.

Study was the winning pitcher. The Dragons improved to 9-0 with the win.

Eastern wins again

Eastern Hancock’s softball team improved to 8-1 with a 15-0 victory over Northeastern Wednesday.

The Royals had 14 hits, including five home runs.

Brooklyn Willis had two home runs and four RBI. Sammie Bolding had two solo home runs and Alina Alford had a solo home run.

Chyan Evans and Camryn Blue had two RBI each.

Pitchers McKenna Stewart and Tatem Adams combined on a one-hitter, striking out 11. Stewart was the winning pitcher.

Cougars lose at Yorktown

Greenfield-Central lost its Hoosier Heritage Conference softball opener at Yorktown Wednesday, 11-1.

Savvanna Riall had two of G-C’s three hits and an RBI.

Girls tennis

Dragons dominate in win over LC

New Palestine’s girls tennis team improved to 4-1 on the season with a 5-0 victory over Lawrence Central Wednesday.

The Dragons won all but one game.

At No. 1 singles, Kaitlyn Mitchell won 6-0, 6-0. At No. 2, Bethany Blachly was victorious 6-0, 6-1. Maizy Haynes picked up the win at No. 3 singles, 6-0, 6-0.

In doubles play, Josephine Harvey/Emily Appleby won in the No. 1 spot 6-0, 6-0 and Amelia Schneider/Riley Watts won 6-0, 6-0.

Cougars win in straight sets

Greenfield-Central’s girls tennis team upped its overall record to 4-2 with a 5-0 victory over Knightstown Wednesday.

The Cougars won 60 of 65 games.

Boys golf

Marauders win on Senior Night

Mt. Vernon’s boys golf team defeated Lawrence North 164-221 on Senior Night at Ironwood Golf Course.

Brady Pearson was medalist with a 39. Drew Lowder followed with a 40 and Parker White had a 41. Dawson Perry and Asher Cotten carded a 44 and 45, respectively.

Eastern Hancock defeats Blue River

In the rain at Royal Hylands Golf Course Tuesday, Eastern Hancock’s boys golf team defeated Blue River Valley 165-214.

Parker Atkins led Eastern Hancock with a nine-hole round of 38. He was followed by Zach Stephens with a 41. Jacob Jackson and Corey Leece each shot 43s. Conner Cook carded a 47.

Boys Track and Field

Richmond defeats EH

At a dual meet Tuesday at Eastern Hancock High School, Richmond defeated the Royals boys track and field team 79-44.

For Eastern Hancock, Hayden Jackson won the 110-meter high hurdles (16.1 seconds) and long jump (18-feet, 4.5-inches).

John Rodriguez-Lemasters won the 300 low hurdles (43.8 seconds) and Brandon Metz, Aaron Redmon, Preston Markley and Noah Wheeler won the 4×800 relay (8:58.7).

Baseball

Royals score 22 runs

Eastern Hancock’s baseball team had eight hits, drew 17 walks and stole 17 bases in a 2207 victory at Anderson Prep Academy Wednesday.

Gavin Scroggins recorded the lone extra-base hit, a double, and had two RBI. Caleb Retherford and Chase Stewart each drove in two runs.

Carson Borden and Retherford both scored three runs. Stewart and Borden each had three stolen bases.

Aidan Morris was the winning pitcher. In two innings of work, he gave up one hit and had one strikeout.
