Greenfield’s Kyle Gibson is a nominee for Major League Baseball’s Roberto Clemente Award.

The Roberto Clemente Award is bestowed annually to the player who best represents the game of baseball through extraordinary character, community involvement, philanthropy and positive contributions, both on and off the field.

Each of the 30 major league baseball teams has a nominee for the award.

Gibson is a starting pitcher for the Philadelphia Phillies.

On his Twitter account, Gibson said, “To be nominated for the Roberto Clemente Award is an absolute honor! Thank you to everyone who has offered their congrats! My wife and I couldn’t do what we do off the field without the support of our teammates, their wives, the staff with the Phillies and our team at Big League Impact.

Voting for the award is open until Oct. 5.
