Rankins nominated for MaxPreps honor

Greenfield-Central sophomore setter Makenna Rankins is a nominee for the MaxPreps.com Indiana High School Athlete of the Week Award.

Rankins was nominated for stats accumulated in three wins last week over Connersville (3-1), Eastern Hancock (3-1) and Richmond (3-0). Respectively, Rankins had 46, 41, and 30 assists in the victories.

Each week the website has a fan-generated contest to choose the winner.

Nominees are selected from statistics submitted to MaxPreps. Weekly finalists are released by the website each Tuesday with voting ending the following Monday.

The Cougars are back in action today at the Shondell Family Invitational at Muncie Burris.

Royals win second straight MEC match

Eastern Hancock followed up a 3-0 victory over Shenandoah, on Tuesday, with a 3-2 victory at Blue River Valley Thursday.

The two Mid-Eastern Conference victories give the Royals a 2-1 record in conference play. They are 5-8 overall.

At BRV, set scores were 23-25, 25-19, 25-19, 20-25, 15-13.

In Tuesday’s win over the Raiders, set scores were 25-19, 25-18, 31-29.

Eastern Hancock travels to Union Tuesday.

Marauders lose in five sets

Mt. Vernon dropped a five-set battle with visiting Delta Thursday.

The Marauders fought back from a two-set deficit to force a fifth, but lost 15-10 in the deciding game.

Set scores for the match were, 25-17, 25-15, 24-26, 17-25, 15-10.

Sophia Damer had a team-best 14 kills. Alivia Morgan had 12.

Abby Herman had five of Mt. Vernon’s 12 service aces and a match-best 30 digs.

Setter Ava Whitmore had 44 assists and 15 digs. Libby Gee-Weiler had 14 digs.

The Marauders are 4-8 overall and 0-2 in the Hoosier Heritage Conference.

Mt. Vernon is back in action Tuesday versus Brebeuf.

Marauders score 14 goals

Eleven different players scored goals in Mt. Vernon’s 14-0 win at New Castle Thursday.

Mattie Isger had a hat trick and two assists. Addy Wong scored two goals.

Kylie Brandes, Lily Muhlenkamp and Lily Printz each had one goal and two assists.

Hannah Monroe had one goal and one assist. Ellie Gawrys, Aya Renforth, Reagan Britt, Jaicee Cole and Rachel Lorsung each scored goals.

Goalkeeper Khloe Patterson had one save.

The Marauders are 5-2 overall and 3-0 in the Hoosier Heritage Conference.

On Wednesday, the Marauders travel to New Palestine in a match of two teams unbeaten in HHC play.

Dragons improve to 3-0 in HHC

With a 6-0 victory over visiting Yorktown Thursday, New Palestine upped its record to 3-0 in the Hoosier Heritage Conference.

The Dragons are 6-1-1 overall.

Against the Tigers, Allie Blum had two goals. Mia Knoop, Bethany Aldridge, Gabrielle Brown and Maddy Potter each had one.

Lydia Sams, Tylar Whitaker, Brown, Blum and Potter had assists.

Goalkeeper Grace Hasenkamp had one save.

Prior to taking on Mt. Vernon on Wednesday, the Dragons are schedule to play at Shelbyville today.

Mt. Vernon captures fourth HHC win

In a stretch where it plays six consecutive Hoosier Heritage Conference games, Mt. Vernon is 4-for-4.

On Thursday at Yorktown, the Marauders picked up a 4-1 victory to improve to 5-2 overall and 4-0 in the HHC.

Brennan LaBelle had two goals. Zach Johnson and Charlie Cole each had one goal and two assists.

Goalkeeper Bryce Glazier had six saves.

Mt. Vernon plays host to Greenfield-Central Thursday.

New Pal defeats Cathedral

Lily Kirchner was low medalist with a nine-hole score of 42 in New Palestine’s 188-205 victory over Indianapolis Cathedral Thursday at Maple Creek Country Club.

The Dragons are 7-2 on the season.

Zoe Nelson followed with a 47. Katie Kelley and Kate Stanfield each carded 49s. Janie Hamilton shot a 50. Hanna Beller finished with a 51.

New Palestine and Hamilton Southeastern play at Westfield Tuesday.

Boys tennis

Royals blank Centerville

Eastern Hancock swept matches in a 5-0 victory at Centerville Thursday.

At No. 1 singles, Zeke Dixon won 6-2, 6-1. In the No. 2 singles match, Luke Fletcher won 6-0, 6-2. At No. 3, Luke Fletcher picked up a 6-0, 6-2 victory.

In doubles action, Myles and Bryce Wennen won 6-3, 6-3. Peyton Stephens and Bo Dixon won 6-0, 6-2.

The Royals travel to Rushville on Wednesday.

Cougars beat Jackets

Greenfield-Central earned a 5-0 victory over host Morristown Thursday.

The Cougars improved to 9-1 on the season.

Greenfield-Central plays host to Mt. Vernon on Tuesday.

Marauders defeated by Yorktown

Mt. Vernon lost 3-2 at Yorktown Thursday.

No. 1 singles player Adam Koon won 6-1, 6-1. No. 2, Manny Downs won 6-0, 6-0.

The No. 2 doubles team of Max Orelup and Spencer Douglas lost a tough three-setter, 6-2, 5-7, 6-2.

At No. 1 doubles, Robbie Moore and Bryndan Wylie lost 6-0, 6-3. In singles play, No. 3 Matthew Jones lost 6-2, 6-1.

After competing in the Richmond Invitational today, the Marauders visit Hancock County rival Greenfield-Central Tuesday.

New Pal falls to Shelbyville

New Palestine was on the short end of a 3-2 match at Shelbyville Thursday.

The Dragons picked up victories at No. 1 and No. 2 singles.

Moses Haynes won 6-1, 6-3. Arjomand Khokhar won 6-3, 6-3.

In the third singles match, Brady Torzewski lost 6-4, 6-3.

The No. 1 doubles team of Max Havel and Eli Sloan lost a tight three-setter, 6-2, 2-6, 6-0.

New Palestine is 4-7 overall and 0-4 in the HHC. All four conference losses have been by 3-2 scores.

The Dragons visit Lawrence Central Wednesday.
