Dyana Cousins flew to Fairbanks, Alaska, and spent two weeks with her son Brett Ward, his wife, Jesse, and “granddoggie” Gus. She took a two-day work road trip with Brett to the oilfields in Deadhorse. He is a heavy haul trucker. “Saw mountains with snow on the way. We drove the roads just like in show ‘Ice Road Truckers,'” she writes. “We panned for gold, took a paddleboat trip on the Chena River and visited Santa at North Pole. I did see the Northern Lights, and that was so cool. Was an awesome vacation.”
