HANCOCK COUNTY — The county added three COVID-19 deaths Wednesday, all from Sept. 13 — the most in a single day since January.

The deaths raised the county’s total to 159. Two were age 80 or older and one was in their 50s, according to information from the Indiana Department of Health. Two were women and one was a man.

Indiana added 68 COVID-19 deaths Wednesday, occurring between Aug. 21 and Sept. 14, raising the total to 14,550. State deaths have been trending upward, but remain well below a single-day peak of 125 in late December 2020.

COVID-19 hospitalizations throughout the state continue to climb closer to last winter’s surge, however, with 2,527 as of Sept. 14. The most Indiana has had in a single day was 3,460 on Nov. 30, 2020.

Hancock County added 57 cases Wednesday, raising that total to 10,534; the state added 4,733, for a total of 918,230. After dipping slightly earlier this month, the county’s and state’s daily case counts have resumed upward trends.

The county’s COVID-19 advisory level remained orange, the second most severe. All counties are orange or red, the most severe, except for Porter County, which is yellow, the second least severe.
