GREENFIELD — Calling all handbag aficionados: The Power of the Philanthropic Purse is seeking designer purse donations for its upcoming fundraiser, to be held Aug. 7.

The annual event raises money for the Women’s Fund of Hancock County, which works to impact women’s lives throughout Hancock County through a number of grants and programs.

“It’s a time for networking, grant-making and a time for socializing, since we haven’t been able to do that for so long,” said Emily Wethington, advancement officer for the Hancock County Community Foundation, which oversees the Women’s Fund.

Wethington said the fund was designed to address the needs and issues affecting women and families in the community.

Each year, money raised the previous year is awarded at the annual fundraising event. This year, more than $28,000 in grants will be awarded to the Women’s Resource Center from funds raised in 2020.

The community foundation surpassed last year’s fundraising goal by $6,000, raising a total $52,000 for the fund in 2020.

Wethington said that was a huge accomplishment, considering that the purse auction, which is the fund’s largest fundraiser of the year, was held virtually last year.

This year’s 15th annual event will offer both an in-person brunch and auction and an online auction for those who can’t attend.

The brunch will take place at 10:30 a.m. Aug. 7 at Nameless Creek Camp in Greenfield, which can accommodate up to 100 people. “Only the first 100 to buy their tickets can attend,” Wethington said.

The 15th annual event will feature a “glamping” theme, including a photo booth inside a vintage camper. Tickets will go on sale in late June or early July.

Wethington said donations of designer purses as well as “glamping”-themed gift baskets are being sought out to raise as much money as possible at this year’s auction.

Donations can be dropped off at the Hancock County Community Foundation, at 312 E. Main St. in Greenfield, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays.

More information is available by calling 317-462-8870 or by visiting the foundation website: www.giveHCgrowHC.org.
