CUMBERLAND

Leonard Francis Garvey Sr., age 88, of Cumberland, passed away Saturday, May 8, 2021 at his home. He was born in Terre Haute on September 30, 1932 to Leonard Edward Garvey and Mabel Madeline (Tryon) Garvey. He graduated from Garfield High School in 1951. Leonard earned his Associate Degree from Purdue University. He served in the United States Marine Corp during the Korean War from 1953-1955. He married Mabel J. (Kelley) Garvey on March 21, 1953 in Kingsland, Georgia.

Leonard worked at Insley Manufacturing Company, now known as Badger Equipment Co., for over 40 years as a pattern maker. He was a member of the American Legion in Indianapolis and Minnesota and was a Scout Master for Troop #95 in Indianapolis. He enjoyed woodworking in his free time.

He is survived by his loving wife, Jo; children, Leonard Garvey Jr. of Cumberland, Marilyn Bannon of Greenfield, Stephanie (Thomas) Reece of Brandenburg, KY, Robert (Darlene) Garvey of Ridgeway, VA, and Deborah (Don) Shelley of Cumberland; 11 grandchildren, Adam, Keri, Sean, Erin, Jeremy, Thomas, Brent, Meredith, Lauren, Chad and Shannon; 15 great-grandchildren; brother, Raymond Garvey of Terre Haute; sister, Verlann Eldridge of Missouri; and nieces and nephews, Frank, James, Richard, Pam, Joey and Mary Margaret. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Mabel; and sister, Barbara Parker.
