The Mt. Vernon volleyball team won its third straight match on Monday, sweeping past Hoosier Heritage Conference foe Delta 3-0 at home.

The Marauders won 25-10, 25-12, 25-15. Mt. Vernon was coming off a Belmont Triples Tournament title run this past weekend, defeating Angola and host Belmont to win the championship.

Against Delta, Rylee Ugen set the tone with 31 assists. Claire Ertel had a team-high 10 kills. Tatum Fitzgerald had eight kills.

Olivia Yeley paced the Marauders’ net defense with four blocks. Abby Herman recorded four aces. Libby Gee-Weiler had 12 digs during the match, followed by 11 from Cecilia Bulmahn.

The Marauders are now 13-4 on the season and 3-2 in the HHC.

Dragons roll past Pioneers

The New Palestine volleyball team posted a solid 25-12, 25-21, 25-19 victory over Mooresville Monday on the road.

Sarah Adam had a double-double with 35 assists and 10 digs to lead the Dragons. Kaelyn Armstrong had 14 kills and two blocks. Reagan Kleiman added 11 kills and Kennedy Stephenson five kills.

Rachel Popp tallied 10 digs and three kills. Grace Myers led the defense with 27 digs.

“Solid team win tonight,” Dragons coach Kelli Gabehart said. “Mooresville was much improved but we battled through it and found ways to score. Kaelyn and Reagan had a strong night at the net and Grace led us in the back row.”

New Palestine is now 12-3 on the season.

Cougars fall to Quakers

The Greenfield-Central volleyball team lost 3-1 to host Plainfield on Monday.

The visiting Cougars won the first set 25-17 before the Quakers regrouped to win the next three sets 25-21, 27-25, 25-15.

Greenfield-Central senior outside hitter Ava Antic led the Cougars offensively with 15 kills. She added 18 digs.

Rachel Campbell had 21 digs. Middle blockers Molly Schwazkopf and Kensley Carpenter tallied eight blocks combined. Morgan Hornaday had 18 assists.

The Cougars are now 13-5 on the season.

Royals charge past Southwestern

The Eastern Hancock volleyball team defeated Southwestern 3-2 on Thursday.

The Royals are now 5-11 on the season after winning two straight heading into Monday’s home match against Mid-Eastern Conference foe Cowan.

Against Southwestern, Lili Hunt led the Royals with 20 kills, 16 digs and 21 assists for a triple-double.

Sydni Bednarski had seven kills, and Alivia Coffin had seven. Emma Bolding finished with five kills, followed by four from Jenna White.

Sydney Hayes recorded four aces, 16 digs, 20 assists and two blocks. Bednarski had 22 digs. Megan Retherford posted 25 digs. Bre Taulbee added 13 digs.

Girls Soccer

Marauders shut out Batesville

The Mt. Vernon girls soccer team blanked visiting Batesville 4-0 on Monday.

The Marauders scored three goals in the first half and added another goal in the second to improve to 9-2 on the season. The win marked the team’s third straight.

Anna Isger led the Marauders against Batesville with two goals and an assist. Mattie Isger had one goal, and Katie Gawrys added another goal. Shay Stindle and Bri Hale both recorded assists.

Dragons fall to Franklin

The New Palestine girls soccer team played some of its best soccer of the season Monday, but it fell just short in a 2-1 loss at Franklin.

The Dragons struck first when Allie Blum hammered in a cross from McKenzie Davis. Franklin rallied to tie the game and it remained 1-1 until the final two minutes when the Grizzly Cubs converted on a free kick.

In the final minutes, the Dragons peppered the Franklin net with shots but were unable to score.

The Dragons are now 6-6 on the season.

Boys Tennis

Dragons win season finale

The New Palestine boys tennis team won its final home match of the season Monday, beating Richmond 3-2.

Senior Ethan Haeberle led the Dragons and played an outstanding match to win 2-6, 6-0, 6-3. Senior Will Au moved into the No. 3 singles spot and won 6-4, 7-5. The No. 2 doubles team of Jackson Havel/Zayden Stiller won 6-1, 6-3.
