Food Safety

The Hancock County Health Department inspects restaurants four times annually and violations are determined as “C” for critical, “NC” for noncritical and “R” for repeated violations. The following inspections are based on information obtained from Retail Food Inspection Reports.

July 29

Brew 52

Location: 4346 S. County Road 500W, New Palestine

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: NC — provide proper test strips for quat sanitizer, debris on floor in kitchen area, to be corrected by Sept. 1.

Round the Corner Grill

Location: 19 S. Bittner Road, New Palestine

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C/R — no certified food manager for establishment, to be corrected by Sept. 1; C — menu needs to connect consumer advisory to those foods that can be undercooked such as steak, eggs, etc., to be corrected by Sept. 1; employee observed putting on food handling gloves without washing hands first, corrected; NC/R — floor under over and table top grill have debris and liquid, repair tile in kitchen that is cracked or broken, to be corrected by Sept. 1.

July 30

KFC

Location: 1604 N. State St., Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C — employee observed breading raw chicken with food handling gloves then touching fryer controls and walk-in cooler door handle, date not marked on coleslaw in walk-in cooler, corrected; NC — some gnats observed in mop sink area, repair tile across from mop sink in raw chicken prep area, to be corrected by Sept. 1.

July 31

Dave’s Meat Market

Location: 333 S. State St., Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: NC — need to provide test strips for sanitizer, to be corrected by Aug. 30; NC — no soap at hand sink in meat-cutting room, corrected; C/R — debris on utensils that have been cleaned, debris on white boards in walk-in-cooler where pizzas are made (clean white boards before putting freezer wrap down), no sanitizer detected in sani bucket used to clean slicers and in sani bucket in meat-cutting room, cross contamination caused by putting deli cheese on scale that is only supposed to be used with raw meat, corrected; NC/R — debris/grime on floors along edges in deli area and area where slicers are located, debris on floor in walk-in cooler and stove/freezer area, restroom has odor of urine, to be corrected by Aug. 30.
