The Mt. Vernon junior varsity won 4-3. The Marauders host Centerville on Thursday night.

Cross Country

Cougars place 4th at Indian Creek

The Greenfield-Central girls cross-country team placed fourth at the Indian Creek Invitational on Saturday.

Marauders find a way to win

The Mt. Vernon cross-country team lost an opportunity to run in two different invitationals this past weekend due to COVID-19 restrictions, but fortunately, they found a last-minute event at Monroe Central.

Graciously invited to run in both the boys and girls races at Monroe Central on Saturday in an three-way match with Winchester, the Marauders’ girls scored a solid, lopsided victory.

The Marauders claimed six of the top-seven spots and finished first as a team with a perfect score of 15 points.

Winchester’s Ella Baldwin took third, but with an incomplete team, Winchester’s individuals were not calculated into the scoring.

Winning the girls race was MV junior Lydia Carrell for her first-ever individual victory. Freshman Alexandria (Allie) Jenson continued to shine bright for the Marauders as she out kicked Winchester’s Baldwin for second.

Esther Small, Morgan Tharp, Tori Jenson, and Melinda Sue Cornelius ran strong races to finish fourth through seventh, with Tharp missing her PR by less than one second.

Also competing on the day were Madelyn Ludlow (12th), Rissa Foster (15th), Alexandra Overshiner (16th), Hannah Eads (19th), and Emily Xiao (DNF).

On the boys side, the Marauders contingency was also able to secure a win over 2019 Sectional champion Monroe Central.
