Cougars hosting alumni night this month

Greenfield-Central High School is hosting alumni night Feb. 11 to recognize and honor basketball players, coaches, managers, trainers, mascots and cheerleaders from the "0" years (2010, 2000, 1990, 1980, 1970, 1960, 1950, 1940, 1930, 1920) from Greenfield, Maxwell, Eden, Hancock Central and Greenfield-Central high schools.

All will be recognized on the floor at halftime of the varsity basketball game against Knightstown.

Alumni are asked to email [email protected] if they plan to attend. Those who graduated in the listed “0” years get in for free.

Middle school bowling leagues available

Strike Force Lanes, 1539 W. Main St., will offer 10 weeks of middle school bowling leagues beginning Feb. 18. A parents meeting will be held at 5 p.m. Feb. 11 at Strike Force Lanes. Sessions will be held from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. each Tuesday through April 21.

Following the season, a sectional tournament will take place April 28, followed by regionals on May 2, semistate on May 9 and finals on May 16.

Upperclassmen dominate Week 13 IBCA POW awards

Underclassmen have regularly found their way into the weekly awards throughout the 2019-20 season, but this time five seniors have earned Week 13 IBCA/Subway Player of the Week honors.

This week, the girls begin their IHSAA state tournament, while the boys focus on finishing the regular season strong.

Winamac Community senior Will Larkin, Greencastle junior Brody Whitaker, Evansville Bosse senior Kolten Sanford, South Bend Riley senior Jazmen Watts, Kokomo sophomore Chloe McClain, Oak Hill senior Taylor Westgate and Our Lady of Providence senior Natalie Boesing were selected as recipients for the week of Jan. 27-Feb. 1 in the recognition program coordinated by the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association.

In District-1, Larkin is the boys’ honoree, while Watts is the girls’ honoree. In District-2, Whitaker is the boys’ winner, while McClain and Westgate share girls’ honors. In District-3, Sanford is the boys’ recipient, and Boesing is the girls’ recipient.
