Food Safety

The Hancock County Health Department inspects restaurants four times annually and violations are determined as “C” for critical, “NC” for noncritical and “R” for repeated violations. The following inspections are based on information obtained from Retail Food Inspection Reports.

Oct. 3

Hometown Classic Pizza

Location: 12 W. Main St., Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

No violations found.

Oct. 7

Mama Nita’s

Location: 5040 W. U.S. 52, New Palestine

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C — deli ham does not have date mark, corrected; NC — employee observed washing hands in three compartment sink, corrected; NC/R3 — repair/replace seal of walk-in refrigerator, replace burned out light rods, to be corrected by Dec. 1; NC/R3 — need to have sanitizing strips available and used, to be corrected by Oct. 21; NC/R6 — clean the following to remove debris/grime/grease: crockpots and lids, dough trays and lids, storage container for lids on shelf, squeeze bottles and lids, microwave interior/exterior, salad bar container lids, to be corrected by Oct. 28; NC/R5 — clean the following to remove debris/grime/grease: compressor grates in walk-in, floor under prep coolers, tray storage on prep table, both prep tables, wall/coving/floor near three-compartment sink, to be corrected by Oct. 28.

Subway

Location: 1261 N. State St., Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C — employee observed touching walk-in cooler door handles with food handling gloves on then touching ready-to-eat food, corrected; NC — some debris in corners and under equipment in food prep area (back), to be corrected by Dec. 1.

Oct. 10

Strough’s Supermarket

Location: 624 N. Madison St., Fortville

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C/R5 — must date mark sandwich spread with oldest date, corrected/discarded; C/R4 — must discard sandwich spread if used by date is exceeded, corrected/discarded; NC/R6 — sweep added to back door, but can still see daylight at the bottom, to be corrected by Dec. 1; NC/R4 — clean floors in meat cutting room under equipment and under sink, clean table legs in meat cutting room and handles/door of walk-in cooler, to be corrected by Dec. 1.
