GREENFIELD
Jerry Jones, age 78, of Greenfield, passed away peacefully after a battle with Parkinson’s on Wednesday, December 4, 2019.
Jerry was born in Tennessee where he received his Bachelor of Science degree from East Tennessee State University. He received a Master of Divinity degree from Anderson University. His first job as pastor was in North Dakota where he served for four years. Jerry was a pastor and counselor for 30 years in Maryland. He received a Doctor of Ministry degree from Howard University. Jerry later came to Indiana to be closer to family and friends.
Jerry loved people, jokes, storytelling, gardening and travel. He was a lifelong learner and enjoyed history. Living in Maryland for over 30 years he was able to visit many historical sites and he became a tour guide for visiting family and friends. Jerry was able to travel many places in the United States and Canada. He was also able to visit the Holy Land. Many considered his interaction with people as similar to Mr. Rogers. A final joke for those who knew him: There were two hats hanging on the wall. One hat said to the other, “You hang here and I will go on a head.”
Jerry is survived by his wife, daughter, son-in-law, grandson, niece and nephews. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.
A celebration of Jerry’s life will be held at New Life Christian Fellowship, 1574 W State Road 234, Fortville, IN 46040 on Monday, December 9, 2019 at 10:30 am. There will be time after the service to visit with the family.
Jerry generously donated his body to the Anatomical Education Program at Indiana University School of Medicine. This gift will contribute significantly to the advancement of health science education and make a significant contribution that benefits the quality of life and care for the living.
