Marauders finish 3rd at Pendleton

PENDLETON — The Mt. Vernon Marauders had one individual champion and several runners-up at Tuesday’s Pendleton Heights Girls Track Sectional.

The Marauders competed along with Eastern Hancock, with both schools sending athletes through to next week’s Ben Davis Regional and several awaiting a possible callback.

Mt. Vernon finished third with 88 points, while Eastern Hancock was ninth with 17. Lawrence North won with 154 points, while the host Arabians were runners-up with 108.5.

The lone county champion was Mt. Vernon’s Eliza Bidwell, who won the high jump by clearing 5’1”.

The Marauders’ Vivian Hoeppner was second in the 100-meter hurdles, advancing to the regional with a time of 17.09. Kamryn Eason advanced with a second-place finish in the 400-meter dash and a time of 1:00.17.

Two Mt. Vernon relay teams also advanced, with the 4×400 finishing with a time of 4:20.38 and the 4×800 finished with a 10:39.04.

Eastern Hancock advanced one athlete to next week’s regional, as Aly Spaulding finished third in the long jump with a distance of 15 feet, 11½ inches.

Several Marauders just missed the cut and still could make the regional. Rissa Foster was fourth in the 100-meter dash. The 4×100 relay also finished fourth, as did Danae Kendrex in the pole vault and Gracesyn Thomas in the long jump.

The Royals’ 4×800 relay team finished fourth and awaits a possible callback. Their 4×100 relay finished fifth.

The advancing Marauders and Royals will compete for a spot at state at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Ben Davis.
