GREENFIELD — With sectional tennis set to begin Wednesday, Hancock County teams learned their draws Monday night when the IHSAA announced its annual pairings.

Mt. Vernon will play host to Sectional 42, which includes all four county teams. The sectional will see the New Palestine Dragons in an opening-round match again this year. The Dragons will open sectional play at 5 p.m. Wednesday against Pendleton Heights, a team they just defeated Friday by a 5-0 score. The winner of that match advances to a 5 p.m. Thursday semifinal against Eastern Hancock.

The other semifinal is a rematch of last year’s sectional championship between Mt. Vernon and Greenfield-Central. The Marauders beat the Cougars 5-0 a year ago. The winner of the two semifinals will meet Friday at 5 p.m. for the title.

So far this season, the Marauders have beaten the Cougars but lost to the Dragons while shorthanded due to injury. The Dragons have beaten the Cougars.

Mt. Vernon is looking for sixth straight sectional championship. The Marauders won the county tournament this spring, with New Palestine second, Greenfield-Central third and Eastern Hancock fourth.
