Softball

Cougars get win

Greenfield-Central moved to 14-4 on the season with another win Wednesday, 6-5 against Shenandoah.

Lexi Rankin threw a complete game for the Cougars, striking out eight and allowing six hits.

Ellie Ewald doubled in a run, Sam Kihega had a two-RBI double and Hannah Holden had an RBI single in the win.

Royals fall on road

Eastern Hancock held a 5-0 lead in the fifth inning against host Frankton on Wednesday, but a six-run fifth from Eagles was the difference in a 6-5 Royals loss.

Caroline Stapleton led the offense with three hits and an RBI. Megan Bever and Kaylee Stewart each had two hits. Taylor Koch hit a two-run home run.

Elise Bittinger threw 4.2 innings, allowing seven hits and six runs — none earned due to five Royals errors — before Maddie Turner came in for a quick 1.1 innings, allowing no hits or runs.

Baseball

Dragons top Zionsville

New Palestine improved to 10-7 on the year with a 5-3 win against Zionsville on Wednesday.

Joshua Jaques pitched a complete game victory and Jack Walker went 3-for-3 to lead the Dragons. Jaques allowed five hits and two earned runs in the victory. He struck out six and held the Eagles off the scoreboard in the last four innings.

New Palestine had 10 hits. Walker was 3-for-3 with a run, a double and two RBIs. Colby Jenkins was 2-for-3 with a double and two runs. Noah Mack and Grant Hickman each had a hit and an RBI. Grant Wiegand had a hit and a run, as did Eric Roudebush. Jacob Bain also had a hit.

Girls tennis

Marauders get close win

Mt. Vernon traveled to Warren Central on Wednesday and came away with a close, 3-2 win.

The No. 2 doubles team of Lexi Shelton and Maddie Swingle got the first point, a quick 6-0, 6-1 win. Louisa Batge won at No. 3 singles, 6-2, 6-2, for the second point. Kaleigh Helm got the final Marauders point with a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 2 singles.

Cougars top Rushville

Greenfield-Central topped Rushville in a rain-shortened match on Wednesday, picking up a 3-0 win.

Avery Spencer won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 singles. The No. 2 doubles team of Kaleigh Stephenson and Grace Silcox won 6-0, 6-3. Aly Proper and Erin Wright won a first set tiebreaker 7-1 before winning the second set 6-1, giving the Cougars the win.
