Marauders senior makes all-star game

The Indiana Football Coaches Association has announced the rosters for the 53rd North/South All-Star Game, and Hancock County will be represented by one player, Mt. Vernon senior Conner Price.

Price, an offensive lineman, will compete in the game, set to be played at North Central High School in Indianapolis on July 12. Kickoff will be at 7 p.m.

EAT hosting free success seminar

Elite Athletic Trend, a Greenfield-based company that has programs working with youth designed to set the trend of community development through leadership programs, athletic development and community outreach events, is hosting a free seminar Monday called "The Climb to Success."

The seminar, hosted at the Hancock Public Library at 6 p.m., is aimed at showing youth in the community how to create their own highlight film and promote themselves to college coaches.

Former Dragons wrestler has big week

New Palestine graduate and current Nebraska wrestler Chad Red has had a big last week, finishing second in the Big Ten and advancing to the NCAA championships, set for March 21 through 23 in Pittsburgh.

Red, who entered the Big Ten tournament with a 17-10 record and unranked, upset two wrestlers ranked in the top 10 on his way to the 141-pound championship match, a 9-2 defeat.

The sophomore will be joined by seven of his Huskers teammates, the first time Nebraska has sent eight to the championships in three years. Red finished seventh at nationals a year ago.

Wise, Cyclones finish 2nd in Big 12

Iowa State put itself in strong position to be a host site for the NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament with a strong run through the Big 12 tournament. 

Greenfield-Central graduate Madison Wise and the Cyclones advanced to the final, eventually falling to Big 12 champion Baylor. Wise averaged just over seven points and four rebounds in the tournament, and is averaging 8.1 points and 4.1 rebounds per game this season as a starter.

The Cyclones will find out their tournament draw Monday.

Eastern Hancock ready for tourney

The Eastern Hancock Athletic Boosters annual 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament will be conducted Saturday at Eastern Hancock High School.

The tournament has many different divisions, from first grade through open divisions for adults, for both male and female players. There is also B division for high school boys that do not play on a JV or Varsity basketball team.

The entry fee is now $80. Online registration will be available at easternhancock3on3.eventbrite.com.
