Restaurant Inspections for Feb. 7 – 11

The Hancock County Health Department inspects restaurants four times annually and violations are determined as “C” for critical, “NC” for noncritical and “R” for repeated violations. The following inspections are based on information obtained from Retail Food Inspection Reports.

Feb. 7

Eagle 2 Petroleum

Location: 407 Main St., Shirley

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C — need to have health policy available, review with staff.

Ben’s Friendly Bar

Location: 307 Railroad St., Shirley

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C/R3 — sliced ham marked as expired, corrected; NC — clean floors/walls in grill fryer area, to be corrected by May 1.

The Sweet Shop

Location: 1309 W. Main St., Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: NC/R2 — clean debris/grease in areas where accumulation is present on walls, equipment and floors, to be corrected by May 1.

Feb. 11

Strough’s Supermarket

Location: 624 N. Madison St., Fortville

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C/R4 — must date-mark sandwich spread made in house with date of oldest ingredient, corrected; C/R3 — must discard lunch meats that have exceeded date-mark, corrected; NC/R2 — freezer is not keeping foods frozen, defrost cycle is too long, service called; NC/R2 — protect ice scoop from contamination, corrected; NC — need thin-tipped thermometer for tenders, thin meats, etc., to be corrected by March 1; NC/R5 — repair gap at back door, may need to repair floor in order for door sweep to work properly, to be corrected by April 1; NC/R3 — clean mold-like substance from walls and doors of cooler, to be corrected by March 1.

Panda Chinese Restaurant

Location: 21 S. Main St., Fortville

Type of Inspection: Routine

No violations found.

Wasabi Japanese Steak House

Location: 1505 N. State St., Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C/R — mouse droppings still in dry storage area, removed and clean up spilled rice, close restroom in back and shut off water if hand-sink cannot be repaired, to be corrected by Feb. 19; NC/R — continue to clean under tables in dish area, floors under fryer and fryer sides, floor under bottom shelves in walk-in cooler and hibachi cart.

Pizza King

Location: 215 W. Broadway St., Fortville

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: NC — removed food residue from walk-in cooler door, clean debris in coving by pizza oven, repair/replace coving by/behind pizza oven, to be corrected by May 1; C — lunch meats too old according to dates marked, revise date-marking system so foods are properly marked, corrected/discarded.
