The Hancock County Health Department inspects restaurants four times annually and violations are determined as “C” for critical, “NC” for noncritical and “R” for repeated violations. The following inspections are based on information obtained from Retail Food Inspection Reports.

Sept. 25

El Jaripeo

Location: 38 W. Main St., New Palestine

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: NC/R2 — sanitizing solution too strong, corrected; NC/3 — store knives and chip scoop properly to protect from contamination, corrected.

Super 8

Location: 2100 N. State St., Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C — cream cheese being held at 64 degrees, sanitizer is too weak, corrected.

Steak n Shake

Location: 2121 N. State St., Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C — spray bottle with chemical was not properly labeled, corrected.

J.B. Stephens Elementary School

Location: 1331 N. Blue Road, Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

No violations found.

Sept. 26

Kroger

Location: 1571 N. State St., Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C — expired baby formula, corrected; C — chicken being cooled for cold package sells and cooled for chicken salad, etc. is not being logged/not following proper cooling method, to be corrected by Sept. 26; NC — need food equipment thermometers for deli cases, to be corrected by Oct. 26; NC — clean interior of deli cases, shelving in bakery to remove build-up/debris, to be corrected by Sept. 15; NC/R4 — clean racks/floors where grime/build-up/debris are present in deli and bakery area, clean dust pans, brushes, etc. to remove debris, clean under produce display carts, clean under all shelving cases, to be corrected by Oct. 15; NC — repair covering under counter in seafood area, to be corrected by Nov. 1; NC/R3 — gap at dock door and exterior door by employee lockers/restroom, to be corrected by Oct. 15.

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C/R2 — unmarked spray bottle with chemicals, corrected.

Mozzi’s Pizza

Location: 23 S. Main St., Fortville

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C/R3 — sanitizing solution too strong, corrected; NC/R4 — gap at back door, to be corrected by Oct. 5; NC/R4 — replace/repair floor tiles that are missing/broken, to be corrected by Oct. 25.
