The Hancock County Health Department inspects restaurants four times annually and violations are determined as “C” for critical, “NC” for noncritical and “R” for repeated violations. The following inspections are based on information obtained from Retail Food Inspection Reports.

Aug. 9

Schwann’s

Location: 2001 W. Mount Pleasant Blvd., Muncie

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: NC — need equipment thermometer or some method of knowing temperature foods are being held at, to be corrected by Sept. 9.

Aug. 10

Taxman Gastropub

Location: 29 S. Main St., Fortville

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C — cheese and mayo in containers in ice at 60 degrees, cream in carton at 80 degrees, dish machine not dispensing sanitizer in bar area, corrected; C/R — unmarked spray bottle in upper bar area that contained chemical, corrected; NC/R — ice scoop in bar not being stored properly, corrected.

Aug. 14

The Cakehole

Location: 18 W. Main St., New Palestine

Type of Inspection: Routine

No violations found.

Snapper’s Bar and Grill

Location: 1514 N. State St., Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C — employees must not use towel to dry hands, must have disposable towels or air dryer, employee health policy must be reviewed with all staff, must label chemical spray bottles, corrected; NC — fruits/vegetables used for drink garnishes must be cleaned properly, must have paper towels available to dry hands, corrected; NC — dripping faucet in bar area, to be corrected by Nov. 1.

Mama Nita’s Pizza

Location: 1506 1/2 N. State St., Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C — must label spray bottles with chemicals, corrected; NC — water filter dripping on ice scoop holder/ice scoop, to be corrected by Sept. 1; gnats observed, clean spills and splatters, clean handles/doors, etc. to remove build-up/grime, lights in storage /prep area are not working, to be corrected by Nov. 1.

Mozzi’z Pizza

Location: 18 W. Main St., New Palestine

Type of Inspection: Routine

No violations found.

Aug. 15

Fraternal Order of Police

Location: 400 E. Davis Road, Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C — unmarked spray bottle with chemical, corrected.

Village Pantry

Location: 900 S. State St., Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C/R — no date on chicken salad in walk-in cooler, corrected/discarded; C — expired dates on lunch meat, corrected/discarded; C — no certified food handler, to be corrected by Nov. 1; NC/R — floors need to be cleaned where black build-up an debris is present, clean ceilings by vents in kitchen area to remove dust/debris, need to provide thin-tipped food thermometer, to be corrected by Nov. 1; NC/R — equipment such as hot holding unit, carts and shelving under tables need to be cleaned to remove food debris; NC — faucet at three-compartment sink is leaking, ice build-up in walk-in freezer on floor and door, to be corrected by Nov. 1.
