The Hancock County Health Department inspects restaurants four times annually and violations are determined as “C” for critical, “NC” for noncritical and “R” for repeated violations. The following inspections are based on information obtained from Retail Food Inspection Reports.

Aug. 1

That Fun Place

Location: 1618 N. State St., Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

No violations found.

Aug. 3

China Inn

Location: 1274 N. State St., Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: NC — some light rods not working, to be corrected by Nov. 1; C — move pest control strips hanging from ceiling to areas where contamination of food or equipment would not occur, corrected.

Ponderosa Steakhouse

Location: 1585 N. State St., Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C — need to date-mark diced ham and cooked pasta, corrected; NC — clean drain in area by grill, walk-in cooler floor and racks that have debris, to be corrected by Nov. 1; NC/R — walk-in freezer door needs to be repaired so ice does not build up at opening, to be corrected by Nov. 1.

Aug. 6

McDonald’s

Location: 2290 N. County Road 600 W., Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: NC — no paper towels at hand sink, corrected; C — no sanitizer detected in sani bucket, corrected; NC — reach-in refrigeration holding cold coffee drinks not closing properly, to be corrected by Nov. 1.

Aug. 7

Indianapolis KOA

Location: 5896 W. County Road 200 N., Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: NC — need to have paper towels available at hand sink, onions being stored on the floor, need to have thermometer in refrigeration unit where pizza is prepared, to be corrected by Aug. 14; a ware-washing sink shall not be used as a hand-washing or service sink, to be corrected by Sept. 3.

Starbucks Coffee Company

Location: 2049 N. State St., Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

No violations found.

Aug. 8

Carol’s Cornerstone Cafe

Location: 301 E. Main St., Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C/R1 — must date-mark all in-house made salads (macaroni salad, etc.), to be corrected by Aug. 8; C/R1 — must discard all in-house made foods that have exceeded date-mark (chicken salad, tuna salad, etc.), corrected/discarded; C — must wrap ham when in storage in refrigeration, must label working spray bottles with common chemical name, to be corrected by Aug. 8; must sanitize immediately after cleaning, wash, rinse and sanitize, corrected; NC/R1 — wiping cloths must be stored in sanitizing solution between uses, corrected; NC — equipment thermometers need in all refrigeration units, hand-washing sink has hot water at 75 degrees, to be corrected by Sept 15; NC/R2 — need thin-tipped thermometer for filets, strips, etc., to be corrected by Sept. 15; NC/R1 — need quat sanitizing test strips for three-compartment sink dispenser, hot water at only 80 degrees in three-compartment sink and dish machine, to be corrected by Sept. 15; repair tiles where broken/missing, to be corrected by Oct. 1; NC/R3 — clean handles of refrigeration units, clean shelving to remove food debris, clean under dish machine (gnats), clean floor/walls, ceiling where food debris/grease is present, to be corrected by Sept. 15.

Country Inn and Suites

Location: 2070 N. State St., Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C/R — dish machine not working, surfaces are not being sanitized, to be corrected by Aug. 8; NC — need to wash apples before serving, to be corrected by Aug. 8; C — chemical spray bottle not labeled with common name, to be corrected by Aug. 8; NC — utensils cannot be stored with items that have not been sanitized such as pens, to be corrected by Nov. 1.
