Marauders cruise past Yorktown

Mt. Vernon defeated conference opponent Yorktown on Tuesday 7-0.

Scoring for the Marauders were Tylin Broaders and Jacob Knepper with two goals each, and Logan Angelopulos, Brandon Johnson and Jon Hanson.

Noah Whitehouse had the shutout aided with great defensive efforts from Hanson, Anthony Wallace, Taylor Lorsung and Matt Thompson.

Cougars pile on goals

Greenfield-Central rolled past conference foe Delta on Tuesday, piling up the goals in an 11-0 victory.

Zack Bell led the way with three goals and two assists. Caleb Mundell added two goals and three assists, Tyler Murphy scored twice, and Trevor Sawyer, Noah Strange, Jason Scrivner and Derek Owen each added goals.

Abe Buescher had five saves in net for the shutout, his fourth of the season.

Golf

Marauders finish 3rd

Mt. Vernon struggled after the holiday break, finishing third behind Hamilton Heights and Guerin Catholic on Tuesday.

Alaina Nugent was team medalist with a 47. Mt. Vernon is now 7-4 on the season.

Royals bounce back with win

Eastern Hancock bounced back after a tough week last week, picking up a win Tuesday against Tri.

Jocelyn Duncan shot 47 for the Royals and was medalist for the second time this year. Daly Pelger had a 53, Shelby Jackson a 56 and Isabella Parker added a 59.

Cougars win tri match

Greenfield-Central picked up a win Tuesday against Connersville and Hagerstown.

Caroline Gibson and Haley Hoagland led the way with 44s and were followed by Tandess O’Neal’s 49 and Rose Gerard’s 54. Katie Curry also shot her personal best with a 47 to close out the scoring for the Cougars.

Marauders take down Cougars

After a lightning delay Tuesday, Mt. Vernon jumped out to an early lead and rode the momentum to a 5-0 win against county rival Greenfield-Central.

The Marauders jumped out early, with J.D. Cohee topping Steven Roland 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles. At No. 1 doubles, Mt. Vernon’s Peyton Meadors and Braeden Browning topped Greenfield-Central’s Mason Bussel and Sam Galyean 6-0, 6-1.

At No. 2 singles, Chris Hays topped the Cougars’ Kane Bradley 6-3, 6-1. At No. 3 singles, Mt. Vernon’s Sam McCarty picked up a 6-2, 6-3 win against Robbie Dye. The final point for Mt. Vernon came from the No. 2 doubles team of Sam Frye and Jackson Dunlavy, 7-6(5), 6-3 winners against Greenfield-Central’s Collin Hunt and Seth Kirkpatrick.

Royals sweep to first win

Eastern Hancock picked up its first victory of the season Tuesday, sweeping past Anderson Prep Academy 5-0 without losing a set.

Kody Huff picked up the win at No. 1 singles. Ian White and Kegan Kendall got the win at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, respectively. Keegan Bowman and Brady Ellis won at No. 1 doubles, and Peyton Robertson and Sammy Blocher won at No. 2 doubles.

Dragons fall to Whiteland

New Palestine team dropped a 3-2 decision Tuesday at Whiteland.

Carson Gavin secured a win at No. 2 singles by a 6-0, 6-2 score. Ben Blachly and Dane Reid rallied to split their first two sets and then win in a super-tiebreaker 3-6, 6-4, 10-5.

Whiteland won in straight sets at the other three positions. Matthew True fell 6-3, 6-3 at No. 1 singles. Trevor Darley lost 6-1, 6-3 at No. 3 singles. Jeremy Wagoner and Devon Bird fell 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2 doubles.

Volleyball

Royals roll past Union

Eastern Hancock rolled to a quick three-set win Tuesday, besting Union 25-2, 25-5, 25-6.

The Royals improved to 5-11 on the season with the victory.

Cougars best Blackhawks

Greenfield-Central traveled back to Delaware County on Tuesday, picking up a 25-19, 25-16, 25-5 win against Cowan after a slow start.

The Cougars struggled to gain a defensive rhythm early in the first two sets, and wouldn’t break away until late in the second. Late in the second set the Cougars extended at two point lead and would never look back. Greenfield-Central outscored the Blackhawks 36 to 7 to close out the match and complete the sweep.
