The Hancock County Health Department inspects restaurants four times annually and violations are determined as “C” for critical, “NC” for noncritical and “R” for repeated violations. The following inspections are based on information obtained from Retail Food Inspection Reports.

Wasabi Japanese Steak House

Location: 1505 N. State St., Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C/R — sushi and eggs not being held at 41 degrees or below, sushi rice being held longer than four hours, corrected/food discarded; C — spray bottle containing chemical not labeled, to be corrected by July 5; C — employee observed eating a drinking in food prep area, employee seen touching lip contact surface of glass with food handling gloves on hands, raw chicken being stored above sliced cucumber salad, corrected; C/R — food contact surfaces of bowls above three-compartment sink are not clean to sight and touch, to be corrected by July 5; NC/R — equipment non-food contact surfaces been to be free of debris/grime, clean ceiling vent to remove “fuzzies,” remove standing water and grime by/under each reach-in cooler in waitress area, area under three-compartment sink and dish machine, clean areas where gnats are present, to be corrected by Aug. 5; NC — need thermometers in all refrigeration units, plumbing leaking at hand sinks and three-compartment sink, no hot water at hand sink by three-compartment sink, to be corrected by Aug. 5; NC/R — ice scoop needs to be protected to keep clean, do not use bowl to scoop ice, clean utensils/equipment need to be stored on clean surfaces, wiping cloths need to be stored in sanitizer between uses, no soap at hand sink by ice machine, no paper towels at hand sink in waitress area and by ice machine, corrected.
