New Palestine takes down Yorktown

New Palestine posted its fourth straight victory Monday, beating Hoosier Heritage Conference foe Yorktown 4-1.

The Dragons won three straight-set matches to claim the victory. Matthew True won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, while Carson Gavin won 6-2, 6-4 at No. 2. At No. 1 doubles, Dane Reid and Ben Blachly won 6-3, 6-1.

Trevor Darley rallied to win a marathon match at No. 3 singles, 5-7, 7-5, 10-8, with a super-tiebreaker replacing the third set. At No. 2 doubles, Caleb Davis/Jeremy Waggoner dropped a three-set match 6-3, 2-6, 6-1.

The Dragons are now 4-1 on the season and 2-1 in HHC play.

Marauders win on road against Chatard

Mt. Vernon traveled to Broad Ripple Park to play Bishop Chatard on Monday and fought to get a 5-0 win to move to 5-0 on the young season.

Winners were J.D. Cohee at No. 1 singles, 1-6, 7-6(5), 7-5, Chris Hays at No. Singles singles, 6-2, 6-7(6), 10-8, Sam McCarty at No. 3 singles, 2-6, 6-0, 6-2, No. 1 doubles duo Peyton Meadors and Braeden Browning, 6-1, 6-1 and the No. 2 doubles team of Sam Frye and Jackson Dunlavy, 7-6(6), 6-1.

Mt. Vernon is ranked No. 7 in District 4, the first time the team has been in those rankings since 2015.

Greenfield-Central outlasts Triton

Greenfield-Central hosted Triton Central on Monday in a back and forth match, picking up a 3-2 win.

Triton Central took the first point winning at No. 2 singles, then the Cougars answered back by taking straight set wins in both No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. Triton Central took the win at No. 1 singles and tied the score 2-2.

All eyes were on No. 3 singles player Steven Roland, who was down 1-4. Roland refused to quit and continued to push himself to make an amazing comeback and win the second set 7-5. Roland would not let up and won 6-1 in the third set. His win earned the team the final point they needed, giving the Cougars a 3-2 win.

Greenfield-Central is now 3-1 this season.
