The Hancock County Health Department inspects restaurants four times annually and violations are determined as “C” for critical, “NC” for noncritical and “R” for repeated violations. The following inspections are based on information obtained from Retail Food Inspection Reports.

June 26

Family Fun and Fitness

Location: 5151 W. U.S. Highway 40, Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C — need employee health policy and review it periodically, must sanitize food-contact surfaces of equipment/utensils immediately after cleaning, corrected; C/R — need sanitizing chemical available and used, corrected; NC — must use sanitizing test strips to confirm concentration of sanitizing solution, corrected.

O’Charley’s

Location: 1993 N. State St., Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C — clean all ‘touch points’ such as microwave handles, refrigeration doors, handles buttons for screens every four hours, corrected; NC/R — clean equipment such as legs of table top griddle, walk-in cooler door, ice machine (outside), floors under equipment, sugar bin, etc., to be corrected by Sept. 1.

June 27

McDonald’s

Location: 5122 W. U.S. Highway 52, New Palestine

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C — employee observed touching face and handling trash and did not wash hands before returning to work, spoons and containers in beverage area must be clean to sight and touch, corrected.

Subway

Location: 5040 W. U.S. Highway 52, New Palestine

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C — need employee health policy and review it periodically throughout the year, sanitizing solution is too strong, corrected; C/R — reach-in cooler behind line is running warm, corrected; sanitizing solution dispenser not working property, service called; NC/R — must have thermometer in all refrigeration units, to be corrected by July 15.

Chicago’s Pizza

Location: 1031 N. State St., Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C — no date on macaroni salad container in waitress area, corrected; C/R — cheese sauce not hot enough, corrected; NC — clean equipment non-food contact surfaces — walk-in cooler door, rack holding trays, flour bin top where pizza dough is made and legs of tables/racks, to be corrected by Sept. 1.

June 29

Dave’s Meat Market

Location: 333 S. State St., Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C/R — lunch meats, ham salad and chicken salad not date-marked, to be corrected by July 2; C — bare hand contact with ready-to-eat food observed, corrected; NC — clean utensils not being stored properly (need to be stored on clean surfaces), need to have thermometers in all refrigerator units, need to clean equipment such as trash cans, buckets, ovens, etc. where debris has accumulated, to be corrected by Sept. 1; NC/R — repair gap at back door, remove all unnecessary items/litter to the operation or maintenance of the establishment, need to clean floors in cracks, crevices, under equipment where debris/grime has accumulated, to be corrected by Sept. 1; C — all food contact surfaces need to be washed, rinsed and sanitized to allow to air dry, to be corrected by July 2.
