The Hancock County Health Department inspects restaurants four times annually and violations are determined as “C” for critical, “NC” for noncritical and “R” for repeated violations. The following inspections are based on information obtained from Retail Food Inspection Reports.

June 20

Pizza King

Location: 12110 E. Washington St., Cumberland

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C — need documentation of certified food protection manager available, need employee health policy and needs to be reviewed throughout the year; C — employees may not touch lip contact surface of silverware with bare hand, must label spray bottles with chemicals with correct label/name, corrected; NC — ice scoop must be stored in a clean, protected manner, corrected; NC/R — cheese pump dispenser needs to be cleaned as often as necessary to remove cheese debris, clean exterior of food storage containers in walk-in cooler, to be corrected by June 20; NC/R –clean dish room area, mats and dish machine to remove excessive food debris and gnats, clean wall behind sink area to remove mold-like substance, clean shelving under front counter to remove food debris, to be corrected by Sept. 1.

Carnegie’s

Location: 100 W. North St., Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

No violations found.

Qdoba Mexican Grill

Location: 2037 N. State St., Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: NC/R — hand sink water not working properly, to be corrected by Sept. 1.

White Castle

Location: 2253 N. State St., Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C — need to clean ‘touch points’ such as fryer basket handle, buttons on the fryer, etc., every four hours if going to touch with food-handling gloves then touch food, corrected; NC/R — clean floors under fryer and fryer wheels, clean walk-in freezer and tall reach-in refrigeration unit doors by ice cream machine, to be corrected by Sept. 1.

June 21

Pizza Hut

Location: 5971 W. U.S. Highway 52, New Palestine

Casey’s General Store

Location: 1133 E. Main St., Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

No violations found.

Long John Silver’s

Location: 2080 W. Main St., Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C — must have employee health policy and must be reviewed with all staff periodically, clean and sanitize in-use utensils at least every four hours, corrected; NC — repair broken floor tiles and coving so they are smooth and cleanable, finish in walk-in cooler is flaking off walls and ceiling, to be corrected by Sept 1; NC/R — clean front line door gasket/ledge, clean floors under equipment, corners and along wall/coving, clean equipment legs to remove build-up of debris/grease/grime, to be corrected by Sept. 1.

June 23

Dragon Palace

Location: 413 N. State St., Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C — fried rice not being held at proper temperature, corrected; NC/R — clean door handles, gaskets of equipment, clean door knobs, clean or replace buckets next to fryer, to be corrected by Sept. 1.

June 25

KFC

Location: 1604 N. State St., Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C — some chicken not being held hot enough, sanitizer concentration too strong at three-compartment sink, corrected; NC/R — clean floors, doors, walls and door handle inside walk-in chicken cooler, repair seal and seal coving at mop sink, to be corrected by Sept. 1; NC — non-food contact surface of trays have build-up, clean sides of equipment where build-up is present, to be corrected by Sept. 1.
